In parallel, FG will go to EU and strike a deal to sell gas - on the condition that EU funds the trans-saharan gas pipeline. Using EU funds, rapidly build the gas pipeline going to Katsina with one spur to Maidugiri. This work will be done in parallal by at least 6 different construction companies. Meet the Sahelian countries for them to also start work.
Complete the Kaduna plant, start a new mega gas plant for Kaduna, start one for North East. Have a northern grid from Sokoto to Maidugiri. The north is not as harsh on infrastructure as the south, so this grid will be more stable. Redirect all hydro power strictly to the northern grid so that power is cheaper there. No more hydro subsidy for the south.
Nigeria is rapidly approaching a financial apocalypse - two things are currently happening that cannot happen at the same time: you cannot keep interest rates high while also keeping your currency stable and strong.
Government usually reduces the impact of debts by devaluing its own currency - this acts as a kind of general tax on everyone. In exchange, it offers high interest rates that negate the effect for investors.
If the government is not devaluing, then interest rates need to go down. Considering the current Nigeria govt position, it will need to drop interest rates. Once it does so, it instantly changes the formula for the economy.
The banks stop being the biggest businesses, and it switches back to manufacturers.
Next let us look at the locations of existing power plants. They are mostly clustered in the south, and are almost all Gas powered plants. We do not produce a lot of hydro power!
The first step would be to ramp up power to Lagos. Lagos-Ogun would need to disconnect from the national grid, and capture all power from Egbin, Olorungsogo and AES. FG and LASG must immediately invest in 3-5 Gas plants that would power Lagos + South West. Ideally, buy older Russian or Indian Gas plants and fly them in with their full expertise. Set them up in months. No experiments, no long story, just bring in working plants and let them feed the central city of Nigeria. Just this will bring steady power to almost 40% of the high consuming population of Nigeria.
Here is how I would fix the Nigeria power problem if I were minister. We cannot start this analysis without first understand where the population of Nigeria lives. The below map I made shows this - population of Nigeria is quite concentrated in particular areas. Power must work in this priority order, not "equity", but just simply - how many people had 24/7 power.
