What makes this even worse is that Haoua will further be stigmatized because there are superstitions associated with 'fistula'. People think it's a punishment from God. They don't realize it was their actions of subjecting her to early marriage that caused it. #Imchildnotwife

[Pheruz B Aman @pheruzbaman]

This is the story of Haoua. She was 15 years old when she got pregnant. She had a very difficult labour because her body wasn't physically ready. #EndChildMarriage #Imchildnotwife #AYM2020 @UnitedAfricanY1 @AUYouthProgram @UNICEF_AUOffice @UNICEFEthiopia @ProfSarahAgbor @maprude

[Pheruz B Aman @pheruzbaman]

She added "You know everything I've experienced - the labour and what's happening to me now, I feel depressed. I don't want to get pregnant again." #EndChildMarriage #AYM2020 #Imchildnotwife @UnitedAfricanY1 @maprude @ProfSarahAgbor @eddie_addai @AUYouthProgram

Such cases where daughters are shipped off to an early marriage because the parents fear they'll get pregnant out of wedlock is a lot more common than we think. #EndChildMarriage #AYM2020 #Imchildnotwife @UNICEF_AUOffice @UnitedAfricanY1 @AUYouthProgram @maprude @eddie_addai

[Pheruz B Aman @pheruzbaman]

This is the story of Mariama - a 13 year old girl from Niger. She was to be married in a few days, but no one had told her about it. She can't decide her own fate. #EndChildMarriage #AYM2020 #Imchildnotwife @UNICEF_AUOffice @AUYouthProgram @ProfSarahAgbor @maprude @eddie_addai

[Pheruz B Aman @pheruzbaman]

Mariama's mother was worried that her daughter would have a child out of wedlock and then no one would marry her, so she accepted dowry from a local trader. #EndChildMarriage #AYM2020 #Imchildnotwife @UnitedAfricanY1 @AUYouthProgram @UNICEF_AUOffice @maprude @ProfSarahAgbor

The more education a girl receives, less likely she is to marry as a child. Improving access and eliminating gender gaps in education are important strategies in ending the practice of child marriage. #EndChildMarriage

Child marriage is a harmful tradition in which young children are forced to live a life that they haven't chosen for themselves.#EndChildMarriage #Imchildnotwife
