The adjective "Dandy" seen here on the cover of a couple of Oct 1935 Skipper story papers, describing two free gifts. Meaning very good or excellent, a couple of years later in Dec 1937, DC Thomson launched their first comic, the aptly name Dandy comic.
May Day is a centuries old spring festival celebrated on May 1 and celebrates flowers, fertility and spring, with summer on the horizon. In 1943 Korky the Cat celebrated the day dancing round the Maypole on the front cover of Dandy #239.
Two real rarities here and an example of the re-use of free gifts. Valiant in 1968 was published by Fleetway (later IPC) and this was the rarer Scottish edition of Vulcan, launched by IPC in March 1975. Not seen either before and the design was tweaked a little between the two.
@BarrieEditor1 Sincerest condolences, Jen and family. I had the pleasure of meeting Barrie two years ago for a pub meal and loved hearing about his experiences in his 40+ years in comics. What a positive impact he made to millions over the decades in his comics, and here on X in recent years.
Happy 75th birthday to Dennis the Menace, "the world's wildest boy" who sprang into action in Beano #452, dated March 17th 1951. He got his first annual for 1956, stumbled across his pet dog Gnasher in 1968 and took the cover spot of the comic in 1974, He's been there ever since.
Vintage 1970s Hula Hoops and Quavers crisp packets found in the wild this week and approximately dated by matching to adverts found in comics of the day! #SmithsCrisps#HulaHoopsUK#Quavers

A 1968 Dennis the Menace book direct from the Beano Room of the DC Thomson Archive. It seems there was some mischievous inter-departmental politics back in the day... 😄
The official DC Thomson press release document produced for the Beano comic's 40th birthday celebrations of Dennis the Menace, in March 1991. Not seen this before and love the colours and layout.
