Thank you @IndependentSage for covering this hugely important issue. Is it right that our policy is that #immunocompromised patients have to pay for protection this winter with #evusheld? 🎄🎅🏻🌲 #nuts

1/x 🧵A friend sent me this asking what is this about? I found out. This is the story of what led to to this most public and most significant direct patient plea to @RobertJenrick I have not seen this EVER happen before. #forgotten500k
For some, Covid vaccines are not effective - their only option is to keep shielding. But one drug could apparently solve all that. Today @bloodcancer_uk are asking gov to fund this special treatment for the #Forgotten500k at risk. Our piece for @5_News
We have organised a vigil, taking place right now, in Parliament Square for the #forgotten500k. I have two friends representing me as I approach 1,000 days of shielding. Most of our patients cannot attend in person. @SteveBarclay, back in post, could fix this with Evusheld.
#evusheld now allowed to be prescribed privately in UK - don’t know mechanisms of this yet or which centres will do. Raises concern about health inequality and means access only to those that can afford #Forgotten500k
We know this news will upset many of our community who won’t be able to access this treatment privately, and for others it will mean making difficult financial choices.
You can contact our support line on 0808 2080 888 if you would like to speak to someone 📞
At the moment, we don’t yet have detail on how people will be able to access Evusheld privately and we are seeking further clarification on this. Once we have this, we will provide an update and advise speaking to your haematology team to get their advice.
We’ve heard today that Evusheld will now be made available privately.
For those who don’t know, Evusheld is an antibody treatment that can be used to prevent people getting covid & is an important option for people with blood cancer who might not have responded to the vaccines.
