@JackieWoodson I love all your books. Each Kindness is especially beautiful and a reminder to me each time i read it to my students. I cherish it. Thank you for the gift of your writing.
@VareForIndiana Schools have real issues to address. @indgop why don’t you join with teachers and parents to solve the real issues instead of creating non-issues, and then creating legislation for those straw men? It’s sad. You can do better. Our kids need your help and #HB1134 ain’t it.
@BrewBusBrett That’s what it comes down to for me, too. Where’s the gop leadership? This is awful and doesn’t seem to be getting any better. I miss the days of serious gop leaders like Lugar. At least if I disagreed with him it was on policy and not basic humanity. What’s the tipping point?
It’s not the kids I’m worried about. It’s the teachers who hold them.
The more time I spend with teachers, the more I am convinced that I’ve never seen so many of them this tired, this unseen, or this concerned about our kids. Our teachers are hurting.
@SchoolBoardCW You won’t be disappointed Mrs Murch is the best of the best. She’s helped to create an incredible learning experience for HSE 4th graders. I’m proud to call her colleague and friend.
The @indgop could prioritize the expansion of wraparound services in schools like counseling, therapy, crisis care, family support, respite care, and primary care health services.
Instead, they're attempting to control educators and how we do our jobs.
@bennyboobooboo@ISTAmembers@hseateachershse I was there in 2019. It seems like lifetime ago! When you spoke for us at the statehouse. I appreciate you and your advocacy for our students in public education. Thank you.
It is possible that after this legislative session
we will have more laws regulating ideas and books in Indiana schools
than regulating guns
That seems messed up

@tmhuston re: IN HB 1134. If it passes today I would pay a week’s salary to any member of the @indgop to join me for a week. We can make lesson plans together, execute those plans, and at the end of the week discuss how we adjusted daily based on kids needs. #thisbillisstupid
@davemillar71@indystar@tmhuston Who is @tmhuston going to get to staff these schools? High school grads? His comment about the budget is also typical. Todd, your party has been cutting funding and disrespecting public schools for 17 years straight. You don’t get a gold star for the bare minimum.
Todd Huston and the high cost of education | Commentary | https://t.co/Ve9thcpFNA Hoosiers, is this how we want to be governed? The corruption is coming from inside the state house. It is time to get Todd Huston out. https://t.co/epBGpiIAtH
@SchoolBoardCW If people want to discuss difficult topics they need to be honest about their concerns. Calling books pornography, which clearly are not, weakens what they’re saying. I believe they do it so we argue the semantics and not the merits. Cuz they’d lose on the merits.
@BrewBusBrett @indgop I couldn’t agree more. Kids need to feel welcomed, loved, understood, accepted. Heck, I do too. This legislation is the anthesis of that. What I struggle with is the lack of empathy and deeper understanding of others that is inherent in these bills.
I was raised in an environment that valued teachers & treated them like prophets. To all educators across the state who are in the teaching profession because it’s your calling: we appreciate you! Thank you for your daily sacrifices, hard work, commitment, & compassion.
