Providing homeless people with housing:
- reduces crime
- increases employment
- improves health
- does not increase reliance on social benefits.
80% of costs are offset by the benefits in the first 18 months:

Hi friends! Still haven’t gotten around to your vaccine or know someone who hasn’t? Sunday at St. Rose of Lima between 11am and 4pm you can receive a free Pfizer COVID vaccine! Spread the news, not the virus!
@thabeeziest Not to be flippant, but that’s literally the first thing that every council looks at. At some point, the cutting becomes detrimental. I don’t know Berkeley’s budget enough to say if that’s the case, but one has to assume that cuts have been applied and will continue to be
👋 Simi Valley, it’s me again.
NIMBYism has a destination and this is it. Whether it’s 5 years down the line, 10 years or 20, you can't expect to have sufficient tax revenue from aging homeowners in single-family homes with Prop 13 tax caps. The math just doesn’t work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Staff has said the city does anticipate "future deficits in our general fund" and has called out, in particular, more than $1 billion (yes BILLION) in unfunded infrastructure needs #berkmtg
Congrats to @Yimby_Law for winning the case against my hometown of Simi Valley, whose city gov't illegally tried to block housing development for seniors. Read more about the case and consider supporting the org here: https://t.co/icN79MC3Kz
@LaurenHogueSV @RuthSimiValley There is always the opportunity to speak at the city council meetings, even if the item isn’t on the agenda. I would also encourage you to email the council. You can find their emails here:

Finally, join us June 26 for the LGBTQ parade!
Last night the Simi Valley City Council all gave @RuthSimiValley the cold shoulder when she suggested that the Pride flag be flown at city hall to honor our LGBTQ+ community. This shouldn’t be controversial, so to refuse to even *discuss* it is just shameful.
To be clear (since this graph doesn’t really fully convey my point) 84% of 18-34 year-olds support gay marriage, as of the poll released today

In addition to being wrong and cruel, it’s also stupid. Our council constantly makes it clear to young people - the backbone to a robust city economic workforce - that this city isn’t for them. Just add this to the pile of bad decisions that contribute to our decay.
I lost my race. I am not a representative of the city. But I hope any member of the LGBTQ community knows that I love you and welcome you, and I am just one of many here who want you to make Simi your home. This is a blip, and we will prevail in the end. 🏳️🌈
Beware, Simi Valley; this will be us without a change in course.
It’s best we get ahead of this and begin planning a vibrant, walkable modern city with denser housing developments, especially near transit, that include affordable housing components.
You can take our Apple Store, you can take our Walmart, our Islands, Farmer’s, Subway, World Market, & Macaroni Grill, but you can’t take our 5 Guys!
Oh wait, you can? And you did?
@JasonZCohen Yeah, I didn’t think it was fair to list some of the smaller businesses, but it does highlight that even if the big guys are struggling, how tough must it be for smaller local businesses?
I’m going to keep harping on this until Simi Valley modernizes, but this is what we mean when we talk about urbanization. It really means “revitalization.”
