@HooverInst@EconTalker@rowanjacobsen What Jacobsen doesn’t mention, but would make his recommendations even more sensible, is that recent advances in melanoma treatment have reduced mortality dramatically.
Ok we all agree that these were heinous crimes and need serious sentences to punish and deter.
But the SCC, whom I generally distain and distrust, has said nothing about the case, only that mandatory minimums are arbitrary, and therefore could be, in any given case, unfair. Which is pretty logical on the face of it.
Why don’t we save our vitriol for the judge that wanted to sentence the defendants for less than a year and the sentencing guidelines, set by the government, that don’t reflect the severity of these crimes.
@jonkay@JanetteSmicer I make hot sauce from my garden. Adding lemon juice (or lime as you do) acts as an emulsifier and preservative. But bottling it hot, as in a normal canning process, gives you indefinite shelf life until opened.
@jonkay I also took the survey, but after saying that I did not work in the film and tv industry it thanked me for me participation and said goodbye without asking any questions about my opinions.
@JJ_McCullough Chosen by the democratically elected representatives of all Canadians? Maybe if we gave MPs more power, they could do their jobs better, and better people would run. And maybe if prime ministers felt more beholden to them they would end up being more than compliant sycophants.
@moveincircles The irony of Marxist antipathy for families is that only in small groups with biological ties of loyalty does the sharing of income, assets, obligations and entitlements fundamental to Marxism actually work in practice, not just theory.
