Open Letter to Rahul Gandhi:
Sir,
When the Congress party collapsed in the four states where elections were held in the last Assembly elections, the one name that raised the UDF in Kerala like a phoenix rising from the ashes is — V. D. Satheesan! Along with him, the leaders and workers who stood united under his leadership, and the vast majority of Kerala’s people who believe in secularism and democracy.
While Congress was nearly wiped out in other states, the remarkable victory of the UDF in Kerala was driven solely by the energy, motivation, hope, and confidence that V. D. Satheesan, as Leader of the Opposition, instilled in party workers and the public.
From the very first phase of the election campaign, it was he who confidently told the people, “We will win.” He was able to accurately predict the number of seats, identify districts where the UDF would achieve a clean sweep, and even strategize and foresee which ministers would lose.
Only Satheesan had the extraordinary confidence to declare that he would go into political exile if the UDF failed to win. He also demonstrated political maturity by stating that if the UDF lost, he would take full responsibility, but if it won, the credit would belong to the party, the alliance, and its workers.
The people of Kerala voted placing their trust in the confidence, vision, commitment, sincerity, and strong stand against communalism and compromise politics shown by V. D. Satheesan, as well as in his leadership abilities. These qualities are lacking in many other senior leaders within the Kerala Congress.
At the same time, strong public opposition to the anti-people policies of the government led by Pinarayi Vijayan and the inhumane actions of the CPI(M) further strengthened the UDF’s sweeping victory.
Today, some are trying to attribute the credit for this massive UDF victory in Kerala to the central leadership. If that is the case, why was this success not replicated in other states? In states where the party structure had completely collapsed, many leaders who were supposed to provide organizational and campaign leadership ended up becoming subjects of ridicule—spending time in Kerala tea shops, making reels, and behaving like caricatures. If anyone tries to assign Kerala’s victory to the central leadership, then the moral responsibility for the massive defeats in the other four states must also rest entirely with the central leadership—and this should be acknowledged openly.
This is not a wave; this is a transformation. It is recognition of unwavering leadership.
The Congress workers and the people of Kerala have only one goal: a government led by V. D. Satheesan. The people believe that he can bring development and change suited to the new era. If the high command ignores public sentiment and chooses a different path, remember that the very people who ensured victory can also deliver a strong backlash.
The people want to see Satheesan as the Chief Minister of Kerala. Nothing less will be accepted by this land.
No one else—V. D. Satheesan must become the Chief Minister of Kerala.
