Slight swell at the site today 🌊 perfect weather for some routine maintenance! Collected some mussels to allow for density and growth assessment. Here’s an example of a seeded line ready to be stripped! #offshoremussel#offshoreshellfish#wales#mussels
Hopefully the weather gods are kind this week and keep the winds at bay!! 💨 Looking forward to checking the offshore site and mussel seed quality/growth. Wondering what other beasties have settled on the ropes this year! 🦀 🐟 🦐 @MOSSSNorthWales#MusselMonday

#Mussels have been cultivated for almost 800 years in #Europe, and have been #used as a food source for more then 20,000 years. In fact, #prehistoric settlements in the #UK can often be identified by the large mounds of mussel shells found nearby.
The MOSSS research team is happy to be back out at sea today checking on the offshore system. Here are some mussels which settled in 2019 growing well on the longline system! #offshoreshellfish#mussels#shellfishresearch
