“compared to seeing a new GP, seeing your usual GP was linked with an 11-21% reduction in hospitalisations, including ED presentations.
For patients seeing a known GP, there was an 18-28% reduction.”
Continuity of care matters!
Our country feels fragmented. And too many people feel unheard.
We want to learn what unites us, and what divides us.

Prof Mosse also talked about the low-risk paradox and the recent NHS England Staying Safe from Suicide guidance which promotes individualised, collaborative risk assessment focused on modifiable factors. Read the guidance here https://t.co/x4RvpODBew 1/2
In recognition of 30 years of NCISH, we heard throughout today’s conference from:
Baroness Gillian Merron
Dr Lade Smith CBE
Angela Samata @Angelasamata
Philip Pirie @philippirie
Professor Jo Robinson
Professor Siobhan O’Neill
Labour MP @NazShahBfd opens the King's Speech debate:
"Someone like me who spent her formative years fighting a campaign to release her mother from prison, who did not have a formal education beyond 12... forced into a marriage at 15... attempting suicide... Yet, here I stand."
Our 2026 annual report, to be presented this week, covers 18,602 suicides by UK mental health patients.
Worth pausing on that tragic figure. Real lives behind the statistics, preventable deaths not prevented, families devastated. @NCISH_UK

"Everyone's overwhelmed. We are literally on our knees."
Dr Lade Smith, president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, says the government's investment in mental health services is 'not quite enough' to tackle the crisis.
Don’t miss the chance to hear Baroness Clare Gerada and Professor Robin Dunbar share their insights at the Men’s Mental Health Conference.

Hope for 2026: a lower suicide rate.
England’s rate has been unchanged since 2018 - no rise despite a pandemic, a recession & huge pressure on NHS.
2026 needs to be the year the rate falls, as it did in 2000s when rates were the lowest on record.
What will that take? 🧵
The task begins tonight. Rates are often highest in January & start of the month carries greatest risk.
It’s not hard to see why - alcohol, family friction, loneliness. All remediable, it should be stressed.
Have a happy, safe & generous New Year. #NYE2026
