@aohereng It's something I rattle on about a lot. Recycling and repairing requires a ptactical skillbase, something that's not promoted enough these days. Once was a time everyone had a shed with some tools, now folks can't even change a light bulb. We require a deep and systematic change.
@heritage_crafts When the top line came up on my notifications I was expecting the next line to say "walked into a pub" 🤣🤣 great news though!, even though it wasn't the start of a joke...
@JeremyClarkson £1M farm value only reaches around 65-70 acres. So it doesn’t take much to work out the enormous inheritance tax that farmers will have to pay beyond that threshold. Most farmers don’t have spare cash. It’s tied up in the land value. This new inheritance tax band is devastating.
#Living Heritage - our intangible cultural heritage - as important as our tangible heritage but vastly underfunded. Surely a rebalance of support should be forthcoming after ratification of the UNESCO Convention on ICH ratified this year. And not by taking funding from tangible!
@MartinHGames Shocking! Just think of the frontline staff and support these salaries could cover.
What do they bring to the table thar could possibly be worth that much?
@LovettPatricia@APPGCraft I've found it difficult to juggle the admin that goes with an apprenticeship, payroll, evidence logging, general employment stuff too.
Life's so busy as it is when you're a crafts practitioner and a one man band.
Still, I hope to have more apprentices at some point.
@LovettPatricia It's sad to see the effect on exports, on the other hand, it's made a massive difference to my craft in that now the cheaply manufactured (and often dangerous) wheels that used to come in from Poland are no longer flooding the market.
@LovettPatricia Was thinking the same, we need to make sure any incoming mp's know what ICH is, and why it is important to us both locally and nationally. Although I can imagine they have other priorities at the moment, but being in the back of their minds can only help.
UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage comes into effect in the UK today. Hurray! Let’s hope the incoming govt take up the baton in ensuring that this equally impt part of our heritage is valued & supported as much as tangible. @DCMS @RhonddaBryant
@LovettPatricia@heritage_crafts I feel that creativity, making and craft has such an important place in learning, it also has such a positive effect on mental health and confidence.
We need to see so much more of this!
@5MinMedievalist @sonymusic@Spotify Soon be back a chalke, looking forwards to it. Guess you can't make it this year? We'll toast to your good health I'm sure!
I have clearly angered the Twitter gods. An algorithm seems to be kicking out my followers without them knowing. If you can help me reach them again by RTing that would be wonderful.
See a blacksmith, wheelwright, wood turner, weavers, crocheters, beekeepers *and* a stonemason in action at the Smithy on Sat 18 May and enjoy a pint or two of real ale or cider! Tea, coffee, soft drinks & cake too. More info https://t.co/J4dvOOhU3b
