THE TILMA OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE HAS SURVIVED FOR NEARLY 500 YEARS
The tilma of St. Juan Diego has carried the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe since 1531. What continues to amaze many people is how well this old cloth has survived through centuries of exposure, damage, and changing conditions.
For many years, the tilma was displayed without protective glass. It was exposed to candle smoke, dust, humidity, and the touch of pilgrims. Researcher Dr. Adolfo Orozco stated that it remained uncovered for about 116 years, even though similar cloths did not last long under the same conditions.
Then came two serious events.
In 1785, nitric acid was accidentally spilled on part of the tilma while its frame was being cleaned. The accident left visible damage, but it did not destroy the cloth or the sacred image. Some popular posts claim the tilma was completely untouched, but that is not fully accurate.
In 1921, a bomb hidden near the image exploded inside the old basilica. The blast damaged the altar and bent a heavy metal crucifix, but the tilma survived.
Some researchers have argued that the original parts of the image cannot be fully explained by the studies they performed. Other experts have offered natural explanations and have identified later repairs or additions. Because the research is debated and limited, Catholics should be careful not to present every popular internet claim as proven science.
The Catholic faith does not rest on proving the tilma is scientifically impossible. We believe because Jesus Christ is Lord and because His Church faithfully proclaims the Gospel. Still, the tilma’s remarkable survival has strengthened the faith of millions and continues to lead people toward Christ through His Mother.
Nearly five centuries later, the image remains before the world.
Do you believe the tilma’s survival is a miracle, or do you think there may still be a natural explanation?
IT'S REAL BAD NOW.
A 5 year old girl in Sweden was stabbed in the neck and is seriously injured.
She was just in the park in the city of Helsingborg when the attack happened.
ENOUGH.
Since Flock loves to track our locations, it only seems fair that we know theirs.
Flock Safety's new GA plant is located at 1885 Mitchell Rd, Smyrna, GA 30082
Flock went to great lengths to keep that address hidden.
That probably means it should be public info.
🚨 UPDATE: Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) is pushing to BAN Sharia Law nationwide, calls out the GENOCIDE of Christians by Muslims
"This extreme ideology is straight from the pit of HELL, and it has no place in American society!"
"You won't hear from Democrats about how radical Islamic terrorists are currently carrying out a mass genocide of Christians in Nigeria."
"Think about this. More than 62,000 Christians have been slaughtered since 2000 by radical Islamic terrorists in Nigeria. You heard that right, 62,000."
"And just this year alone, more than 7,000 Nigerian Christians have been murdered because of their faith alone. You can't turn on the TV without hearing about Israel's so-called mass genocide of Palestinians every day. And yet when it comes to 62,000 Christians being slaughtered by radical Muslims, it's radio silence."
9 Officers just got arrested/fired for abusing Flock surveillance to stalk people...again! This makes it 21 cases of abuse so far that we're aware of.
This is exactly why mass surveillance is dangerous.
It’s not just “a few bad apples.” One person with access and a grudge can turn your every move into their personal playground - exes, coworkers, neighbors, whoever.
Your 4th Amendment rights are being shredded while you’re just trying to live your life.
Nobody consented to being tracked 24/7 just for existing.
And when the machines get it wrong? False positives can destroy lives! The FBI will be at your door at 4AM, guns drawn screaming at you to 'get on your knees!'
Real police work doesn’t need this. 🕵️♂️
Deacons Andrew, Adriano and Isaiah will be ordained priests of our Diocese this morning. In you great charity please pray for them to be good and holy priests.
