No person or community should be asked to relinquish the conditions that make them recognizable to themselves as the price of participating in a shared world. At the same time, every person and community has an obligation to recognize that others are making the same claim. Shared life requires institutions that protect both common goods and the integrity of distinct ways of being, while providing fair processes to address conflicts when those claims genuinely collide.

That principle won’t resolve every conflict, but it offers a compass. It asks not “Who must disappear?” but “How do we build forms of coexistence where no one’s dignity depends on someone else’s erasure?”
