I quote this all the time because it explains everything.

The more you go down the rabbit hole of studying desire, the more you realize, it’s completely empty.

You don’t have intrinsic desires that your need to be true to, you don’t have a true self, you lie to yourself constantly about why you do what you do.

Every desire you steal from others and every narrative you construct is in service of your unwillingness to submit to God. You want to be the one with the authority and self existence to create meaning but you constantly and spectacularly fail. Instead of realizing your error and submitting, you double down and create narrative rationalizations to try and lift yourself up for all to see.
It’s turtles all the way down.
