@ConcordC Honored to be in the great state of North Carolina! We’ve got more than a dozen programs here in the month of September alone! Huge thanks to @NCState@DukeU and @UNC among many others!
Great conversation with the Kiwanis Club of Charlotte, NC!
Our National Field Director, @PhilSmithATL, discussed the federal budget, our growing national debt and what today's choices mean for future generations.
Thanks to President Amber Pendlay and Charlotte Kiwanians for the terrific questions!

If you aren’t paying attention to this you should be. When your oil light comes on in your car, it’s pretty stupid and radically expensive to ignore it. This is the oil light on our nations’s dashboard.
I know I'm annoyingly repetitive on this:
But this country is completely unprepared for what happens when $200 trillion in projected 30-year budget deficits combine with persistently rising interest rates.
Our debt is nearing $40 trillion. Our field team is growing to meet the moment, new leaders organizing communities across the country to demand fiscal responsibility from Congress.
173,000+ advocates. 464,000+ letters sent. And counting.

For the first time in recorded history, new mortgages are going mostly to existing homeowners, not first-time buyers. Young people are being locked out of the wealth-building that homeownership provides.
@EugeneSteuerle of @urbaninstitute joined host Bob Bixby on #FacingTheFuture to explain why housing policy needs to change.

@ConcordC@EugeneSteuerle@urbaninstitute There are so many positive opportunities associated with fixing our federal budget problems… these fiscal issues should be priority one!
@ConcordC@BBKogan A debt spiral would be debilitating. I don’t think most people realize how serious that possibility is and how serious the ramifications of that are. We should be working overtime to make sure this does not happen.
Within 3 years, the interest rate on our debt is projected to exceed the economy's growth rate. That's the tipping point into what Bobby Kogan warns could lead to calls a debt spiral.

@JessicaBRiedl Love this so much! Such a great resource for young leaders and a great legacy based on your continued incredible public policy career! Can’t wait to host you again this week @ConcordAction on Wednesday the 8th!
This message is vital for everyone in our country to hear. We have a lot to celebrate on our big birthday, but we’ve got some really big problems that we need to face up to. We are trying to do that @ConcordAction
We now pay more interest on the debt than we spend on defense.
This July 4th, what will we pass on to the next generation?

@ConcordAction@CarolynConcord@WashTimes This is a vital message for everyone in our country to read. We have a lot to celebrate and recognize in this country on our big birthday, but we have some serious challenges that are not being taken seriously. Let’s do something!
I’ve been spending a lot of time in Pennsylvania lately. Last week took me to Lancaster and York counties. Later this month, I’ll be in Pittsburgh for events at Pitt, Carnegie Mellon, and then back to Philly for a community wide program at Villanova. Invite us to your town too!
@RepSmucker hosted over 100 Lancaster County constituents at Penn Manor High School to work through the federal budget together.
We joined to help guide residents across party lines as they weighed tradeoffs on everything from defense to Medicare.

@scott_higg@MurphyAJC Wow! I thought there might be multiple lines merging or something. It’s a real luck of the draw on where you enter the line or which line you can find on a day like today. Mine was brutal but I’m glad you were able to get through so fast.
@scott_higg@MurphyAJC How did you do that? I was in PreCheck prior to 6 AM and didn’t through until well after 9 AM. Were you on the International side?
@erichhartmann@MurphyAJC Senate Democrats offered legislation to fix it. Last night, the Republican leader of the Senate offered something similar. The White House said no. There is only one President and we can’t get through this (or other big federal budget challenges) without executive leadership.
@CressieT0404@MurphyAJC I think I might’ve been in line at exactly the wrong time. Even on a normal Monday it starts getting better around 9 AM (after the morning rush). If I had it to do over again I would’ve gone to the International side.
