2021 was another dark red stripe (but not the darkest red). The warmest 7 years on record are the last 7 years.
Global temperatures from 1850-2021 #ShowYourStripes
Changes in global temperature from 1850-2090 represented by coloured stripes.
Our planet has already warmed by 1.2°C, mainly due to burning fossil fuels.
Our choices over the next decade & beyond will determine our future.
Rapid actions now mean smaller climate consequences.
83 years since @GuyCallendar first linked increasing atmospheric CO₂ to observed global warming.
25 previous COPs, all recognising the problems.
6 IPCC reports clearly setting out the science.
Maybe #COP26 can finally change direction to eliminating greenhouse gas emissions?
To avoid reaching global temperature levels such as 1.5°C there is a limited amount of carbon dioxide we can emit into the atmosphere.
We are rapidly using up this 'carbon budget', mainly by burning fossil fuels and deforestation.
Hi, it’s your friendly neighborhood climate scientist. Facing the #climatecrisis is tough! Here’s the essentials you need to know, tips for finding where you can contribute with purpose and meaning to the work needed, and evidence-based high-impact climate actions. A THREAD: 1/n
@mrchrisadams I got your back Chris! Exactly my thoughts, I share my writing about my own climate grief, ways to cope, and evidence-based #ClimateAction here:

I've heard that the very idea of a personal carbon footprint was one that came out of discourse in the late 20th century when fossil fuel firms were deliberately peddling FUD to avoid climate action.
We've been stuck with it since.
Where would I look to read full more on this?
