My initial review of the geoscience DEI literature is telling me something this morning and I hope I’m not overthinking, but we have left a lot of historically minority groups out of the research spectrum and this will hurt all our efforts in some few years to come @dr_earthquake
Coming up NEXT is @DrVasshe. We will explore his ideas and experiences as a Black leader to help develop and inspire the next generation of Geoscience leaders.
Today's #BiGWeek theme is #LeadershipInGeosciences.
Today, we will have Q/A #TweetChat and live panel discussions with some inspirational Black Geoscientists in leadership roles.

Hi, I'm Sarah from Nigeria🇳🇬 and I currently serve as a Communication Volunteer at @WIM_UK. My curiosity for how solid minerals can be extracted sustainably from the Earth stirred me to pursue a Mining Engineering Masters'.
Only 2days left of #BiGWeek 🥲 Today's theme is #GeoSustainability.
Geoscientists are critical to delivering the @UN Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs, but how?

Omg y’all this space is so informative! I can listen to @sayloh14 talk all morning. So much integrity and knowledge regarding a particularly sensitive topic.
@sayloh14 We need to look at reclaiming our mining sites. If we can reclaim our land to at least 80-90% of it’s original state, we can do very well in mitigating the harmful effects. Reclaiming of mining land is crucial. #naturalresources#BiGWeek2021
@sayloh14 Our role as citizens to offset climate change: CC is essentially excessive CO2 in our ozone layer. As much as possible, we need to identify those things that absorb CO2 in the atmosphere and we need to embark on tree planting and stop destroying the existing forests.
@KombadaM Citizen science is really important and with social media anybody can contribute to climate change initiatives. Apart from officials and scientists, community members can really help to fight climate change.
#naturalresources#BiGWeek2021
@KombadaM We should make sure that mining activities respect environmental regulations.
It’s very important that the key players in the mining sector work with the environmental sector to safeguard our natural resources. #naturalresources#BiGWeek2021
