FYI! Between 2017 and 2020, the percentage of 7th and 8th grade ELs who speak Portuguese doubled. Community leaders at @PhillyOIA and @HIASPA told us that this finding reflects what they have seen in EL communities and in service requests at their own organizations.

Hey #phled!
PERC researchers recently looked into the diversity and experiences of middle school English Learners in the last few years in SDP.
We found:
📊 Though many come to us from all over the world, nearly half of middle school ELs were born in the United States
Did you know #PhlEd?
SDP’s population of ELs has grown by 66% in the last decade, from about 12,000 in 2014 to nearly 20,000 in 2022.
Last year, ELs made up 17% of the student population compared to only 9% in 2014.

Great example of why working in an RPP structure can help support higher quality research
-> when the quantitative results of a study seemed counterintuitive to researchers, the district team was able to contextualize the “why” behind the data @RiceKinderHERC@RPP_Network
“Sean Vanatta (PERC reasearcher) said he hopes it serves as a call to action to make sure students have what they need to graduate through the state’s alternative pathways, which rely on alternate test scores or work experience and training.”
