@AmyMari84473950 Sport impacts students overall wellbeing immensely. However It also enables for many other great qualities to emerge within individuals, such as - team work, participation, inclusion, fair play…
Google forms could be great to use for an online questionnaire
@AmyMari84473950@TurningGreenOrg Great idea! Students could design posters to advertise around their local community advocating for everyone to become involved. @sims789 posted a tweet about students teaching parents their knowledge gained from a recycling program. This idea could be used with this program too!
@TurningGreenOrg have created a free online program accessible to students, teachers and families. They strive to address various issues each day throughout April through “thoughtful, grounding, learning experience”. Do you think this would be effective within a school community?
TURNING GREEN CLASSROOM is now live! The interactive web platform offers 30 days of eco learning for students & families with simple, fun, impactful daily activities. 💚🌍💻♻️🌐🔋📱🌱👥 Become informed, inspired and mobilized throughout April. #TGClassroom https://t.co/1S6zoFiNMj
@AbbeyDean6 Couldn’t agree more! Many students come to school with items in their lunch boxes wrapped in plastic… beeswax is a great alternative #sustainable product! Although it's costly, the long-term savings and positive environmental impacts are more worthwhile
@AmyMari84473950 Schools nearby a river could become involved as well! Paterson River and Allyn River first spring to my mind. They run through Vacy, Paterson, Gresford, Eccleston, Fishers Hill and Dungog - just to name a few…
A great outdoor activity for students to participate in #take3
The statistic of an individuals daily average of 1.6-10lbs waste produced equates to 0.7-4.5kg. Unbelievable! I instantly think of all the waste that becomes pollution, impacting the environment directly. Coastal schools should participate in #take3forthesea to address this issue
What does ZERO WASTE mean to you? We’re diving into the topic in Turning Green Classroom ♻️🚯 The avg individual produces 1.6-10 lbs of solid waste daily. Each year, 2.12 billion tons of waste is produced worldwide. We must act! Join #TGClassroom today https://t.co/1S6zoF1cUL
Love this picture... shows how simple #sustainable changes created a long-lasting positive impact! I know the initial purchase price of these items can be quite costly, however, does this image open your eyes to the money you can save long-term?
Its just one non-reusable item… One item evidently creates a bigger problem. It’s time for us to implement #sustainable practices. #TogetherWeCan take small steps to create BIG change! #UoNTeach

@AmyMari84473950 I read a story shared by a high school teacher last year that has stuck with me. The story highlights the hardship students carry with them that goes unnoticed, with the sharing activity leaving students more compassionate, kind and empathetic
Eye-opening!

@AmyMari84473950 This initiative is excellent! I believe it would be particularly helpful within communities that are experiencing financial hardship. School communities could even host an event, with students given the opportunity to showcase traditional artworks they create in class!
@AmyMari84473950 What a great insight into simple steps we, as teachers, can take everyday within classrooms! Personal biases individuals hold is a significant issue to address. @baileelinnane11 shared an image about cultural differences that would be a great resource for students to view!
@AmyMari84473950@sims789@kurt_lomas I love #wastefreewednesday for pushing parents towards reducing plastic use, yet some parents might not be willing to try
@sims789 shared a link about students teaching their parents correct recycling practices & its importance. This approach could be taken with #wastefreelunches
Check out this resource I discovered!
This could be posted in a staff room to instigate conversation between colleagues about ways to #reduceplastic
Number 4 could be a point for discussion in a classroom. Students could brainstorm alternative ways to bring their lunch to school
@sims789 Students educating parents is an awesome approach to tackling recycling issues within Aus. Check out my tweet on Plastic Police @bags2benches initiative. Students can engage their parents, school and community in recycling plastic and turning it into benches for their school!
@sims789 This initiative would be fantastic in Aus as an organisation that invites schools to participate. Have you heard of @TurningGreenOrg online classroom program? It’s a free online accessible platform for classrooms to engage in different #sustainable practices each day in April
@sims789 This resource looks in-depth at many issues and steps to create positive change for our environment. Pages 21-22 are great to personalise the issue of pollution in our rivers. Check out this video explaining other ways humans contirbute to water pollution- https://t.co/tW5i1OKCpd
@sims789 Thank you for raising the issue of cost… that could definitely turn parents away
Students could conduct a research project investigating the long-term cost benefits of switching, which they could then present to their parents. Do you think this could overcome that barrier?
This article from #sbs discusses the ins and outs of beeswax wraps. There are many positives as they can be used for just about anything, and most importantly they’re #reusable. I couldn’t think of a better alternative for plastic wrapping!
https://t.co/3y4lrYtAOp
@sims789@kurt_lomas Looked at @kurt_lomas's post - what a creative way to involve students! The bags could have many uses i.e. library books
I think some teachers may struggle with Number 8 - ditch the laminator. Although its not a necessity, teachers should only laminate resources they will reuse
@CarlieSjostedt You could display this in a classroom to create discussion between students about what to bring to school instead of single-use plastic items. There are many alternatives for containers - I think jam jars are excellent! Check this article for more ideas https://t.co/2ltb7lCfS3
@MichaelaAstori1 Movement certainly enhances learning within a classroom. However, I found it interesting the effects on mental health. I’ve attached a link with other great ideas for brain breaks, it also has an image of the difference activity has on a child's brain.

@baileelinnane11 The iceberg image is perfect for this topic. This is vital for students to be kind, considerate and accepting individuals. Traits they will have for their whole lives
This could be displayed in a classroom to initiate conversation and awareness of their behaviour.
Great resource!
