@falco_girgis yes, graphics settings / performance are traditionally always fixed on consoles, but I wish more games would at least have a "quality mode" and a "performance mode" option, so the end user can choose between them.
@nand2mario@topapate unlike most other systems that MiSTer does, for PC specs were variable by design. 486 itself went up to DX4/100 with Intel, and even higher with others, so I don't feel it's that bad if it ends up being a sort of "super 486" in order to reach those levels of performance.
@nand2mario@topapate honestly, I'd be OK with z486 even surpassing actual per-clock 486 performance. IMO, let's get as much performance as we can, then just have toggles to disable cache, change clock frequency, and other tweaks to slow it back down as needed. best of both.
F-15 Strike Eagle II.
Released by MicroProse in 1989, one year after F-19 Stealth Fighter. No patient radar evasive maneuvers here, but missiles and dogfights all the way. Not quite a flight simulator, not quite an arcade game, just the perfect balance. Solid manual too.
@Retroldies the sequel F-117A (Stealth Fighter 2.0) was my first flight sim. I had tons of fun with it as a kid, even though I didn't quite get all the controls and systems, but I understood the basic idea of radar, targeting, and bombing, etc.
F-19 Stealth Fighter. A masterpiece of tactical flight sim by Microprose, 1988. Just cannot count the hours I spent on it back then. Didn't have any sound except for the PC speaker.
@SuperSisi Was their spelling really that bad to get the name of the Titanic (that was the title of their game no less) wrong? Or was it actually an attempt to avoid copyright issues?
@RetroTechChris my family's first PC was a Pentium 60. though for some reason as a child I just thought that the 486 DX4 100 sounded cooler and always wanted one. still enjoyed and got lots of use out of the P60 though. I even (vaguely) remember when a tech came by to replace the flawed CPU.
@BitPlanetGames@XwingGameSeries you should check out the work already done for XWVM and TFTC then. XWVM in particular isn't even a mod but basically a rewrite/port of the main game engine to a modern one. TFTC is a mod which uses X-Wing Alliance and remakes TIE Fighter in it.
@digitalfoundry hello @NoMansSky, now that it supports it, can we get docked VRR for No Mans Sky on Switch 2? I'd love a 60fps "performance mode" option too.
My music from the SNES version of SimCity is now officially available on Nintendo Music.
It’s amazing to see music I wrote over 30 years ago return in this way. 🎵
