1.Why would Liz Truss even think of cancelling the Northern Ireland protocol right now? Especially there is have a better idea! A Brexit terms review is due in 2025. It's the UK’s best chance to get a more workable Brexit. My new paper for @pef_online https://t.co/Fz0f16owfq
I'm not making any effort to get behind the paywall to read the content, but from the headline this looks like the 'free gifts' school of trade deals that came crashing down with Australia, and we're expecting to believe that the US would be generous?
As an economist I know you cannot cut your way out of debt. Instead, you have to grow.
We tried austerity for 14 years and it left us with low growth and crumbling public services.
This high investment government will grow the economy and lower the debt burden.
Europeans shd *not* be surprised abt Latino turnout for Trump. The Latino vote has only voted 2x for a Democrat president in 50 yrs; it's no longer monolithic; many believe immigration is out of control and 1 in 5 Latino men are in factory/blue collar jobs. Trump speaks to them.
How can any decent Republican vote for a man who is essentially saying @LizCheney should be taken out and shot. The guy is unhinged and dangerous and serious about the idea of dictatorship.
Harrison Ford: When dozens of former members of the Trump administration are sounding alarms saying ‘For God's sake, don't do this again,’ you have to pay attention. They're telling us something important. I've got one vote, same as anyone else, and I'm going to use it to move forward. I'm going to vote for Kamala Harris

turns out that when government announced 5 new Freeports last week it meant…
….there won’t be any new Freeports
instead five existing freeports will get official clearance to have custom sites within their boundaries

NEW: remember those “five new Freeports” Rachel Reeves was going to unveil in the Budget? Er. Not happening.
Officials admit it was a “total cock up with the comms” and was just “next steps” with five old ones 🙈 — me via @ft with @PickardJE

@theAndrewSharpe@Alfaromeo170@jlbps @HunterNorrie @warriorbadger You're right, but in a more recent piece, partly on this issue (https://t.co/Qy4l5U0RPf) I link to the arguments wrt Scotland (https://t.co/0XSu6DkIW5), which I think is the same thing you refer to upthread. Starmer sticking with freeports
@singarj reports the Budget will include funding for 5 new freeports - seen by Brexiteers as a key benefit of leaving the EU

FFS. How ridiculous and disappointing. Even the Conservative-led government back in 2012 decided not to renew the licences of the freeports they'd set up, starting in Thatcher's time. https://t.co/jK5RrEDDJj
There's no serious evidence that freeports can support UK economic growth. Looks like someone in the Treasury desperate for an announcement. Bad sign for a new government. https://t.co/KmaIweMupG
