Linux was never built like a startup.

When Linus Torvalds began working on the Linux kernel at 21, he did not have a pitch deck, a growth strategy, or a plan to become the foundation of modern computing.

He had a technical problem he wanted to solve, and he invited other people to help improve the solution.

That second part changed everything.

Linux did not become essential because one person built the perfect operating system. It became essential because thousands of contributors could inspect the code, challenge decisions, repair weaknesses, and adapt it to machines its creator could never have anticipated.

Companies often believe scale begins with control, but Linux demonstrates the opposite: sometimes scale begins when you create something useful enough to share and open enough for others to strengthen.

The original idea was personal. The ambition became collective.
