And just like that, pat leave is over. Been a whirlwind 2 weeks and life has now changed. Anyone have any helpful tips on managing the return to teaching post baby would be much appreciate
I absolutely loved my local school. The Head who ran the school before was an inspirational man who made people feel safe to express their views. The fact that ONE person can change the dynamic & ethos so dramatically, leading to 70 plus staff voting with their feet 👣 is beyond me. We went from Good to two consecutive RI Ofsteds 😔
Since he’s taken over, there’s been nothing but negative headlines. Skirt ban, period proof, cancelled 6th form courses & more parents opting to home school than ever before. Lynsey Holzer CEO has gone all out to excuse his behaviour with maladministration in whistleblower meetings. My heart breaks for my community 😞
We flew over Hurricane Milton about 90 minutes ago. Here is the view out the Dragon Endeavour window. Expect lots of images from this window as this is where I’m sleeping while we wait to undock and return to Earth.
Timelapse coming in a separate post.

The first job of any incoming head of department is to do...nothing.
Take your time. Figure things out. Don't rock the boat until you've identified the thing that really needs changing.
That applies to anything: booklets, T&L, starters, homework platform, admin...whatever.
Things we’ve got at my new school that I could never have imagined at my last place:
- 2 release days a year for HOY, 1 for HOD
- a regular check in from the Head
- a commitment to work life balance, not just empty words
- an actual staff room
