Well that was a disappointing performance by the offense, but Andrew painter threw an absolute gem and that is a huge positive to take away for the Phillies. Headed back home though where the real work begins with the Braves.
Wow even with a lead off single from Bryce, arraez strikes out (thought that was impossible), and stott and marsh throw up weak at bats. Pitching can’t be much better, but hitting can’t be much worse today for the Phillies.
At this point all we are asking is one run from the Phillies offense. Just give painter a chance to factor into the decision. He has thrown way too well not to be given that chance.
Phillies bats really need to get going today. Painter is doing what you can ask and then some so far, and the offense hasn’t managed to even put pressure on the d backs. Gotta be better.
Wow not often we see Bryce not swing at those pitches back the back and end in a strikeout. Guess the Phillies can’t ask him to be perfect, though he’s been pretty close to it this past month.
Can’t overstate how big it would be for the Phillies if he can get right again before the playoffs. He looks to be throwing the ball with insane confidence as well.
Didn’t tweet it last night, but…
Aaron Nola since July 1st
3.43 ERA, 1.27 WHIP & 10 K/9 in 63 IP
His 2.65 ERA in August is his lowest in a month since June 2022*.
*He did have a 2.36 ERA in his last six starts of 2022 between September & his one October start.
The more and more I watch the rookie McFarland throw I think he has found his place in the bullpen. The guys stuff is electric, and he’s a huge piece for the Phillies come October.
Great work from the Phillies bullpen and Nola last night to hold that early lead. They did what they had to do and win, and it’s ok if it’s ugly as long as you win.
Nola threw one cement mixer curveball and it got hit for a double. He’s not got his best stuff tonight in my opinion, but still throwing it well as of now. Phillies need to get that run back.
Wow Bryce Harper is on some kind of a heater right now. He’s so much fun to watch when he is going like this. 33 games is crazy. Phillies need to have a big inning here.
Not one of those games from the Phillies were easy, but accomplished what they had to and won them. Take 2 out of 3 from the diamondbacks, and I think it would be a strong west coast trip. Then it’s time for the division.
