BREAKING: President Biden makes history by announcing that he will commute the sentences of nearly 1,500 non-violent offenders in the biggest single-day act of clemency in American history.
And it gets even better...
In addition to the commutations, Biden will pardon 39 other non-violent offenders including a military veteran who volunteers at a church and a nurse who helps with natural disaster responses.
"America was built on the promise of possibility and second chances," said Biden.
He explained that many of these individuals would receive much lighter sentences if they were convicted under today's laws and policies.
"As president, I have the great privilege of extending mercy to people who have demonstrated remorse and rehabilitation, restoring opportunity for Americans to participate in daily life and contribute to their communities, and taking steps to remove sentencing disparities for non-violent offenders, especially those convicted of drug offenses," the president added.
The 1,500 non-violent offenders have all been placed on home confinement for at least a year and according to the White House they have demonstrated "successful rehabilitation and a strong commitment to making their communities safer."
"The President has issued more sentence commutations at this point in his presidency than any of his recent predecessors at the same point in their first terms," the White House stated.

So the GOP is just currently covering up potential sex crimes against children by one of their members and instead of releasing the report, they are trying to make that person the Attorney General of the United States? Do we have that right?
Sri Lanka recently tried RFK Jr.'s food plan. The results were catastrophic. It caused agricultural productivity to plummet, led to widespread food shortages, skyrocketing prices, lost export revenue, and destroyed the economy. Farmers faced massive losses and the government was forced to reverse the ban and import emergency food supplies at great cost. https://t.co/Zr1HTr1OGs
I've been involved in winning presidential races and races that lost. One common thread is that everyone seems to have a reason why you won or lost which usually reflects a personal perspective or agenda.
So here's mine: I think VP Harris ran a very good campaign that operated at a high level. She had a great convention, crushed Trump in a debate, and put on a series of big event rallies that were the best I'd ever seen.
As a Republican operative, I spent years pointing out flaws in the Democratic Party and I'm not here to say it doesn't need to go through a period of questioning and self-reflection. Those are much larger questions than one election and one campaign. But the Republican party is an anti-democratic movement, attacking the pillars of American democracy from elections to the judicial system.
I understand those who say that if there had been a "normal" Democratic primary, the results would have been better. Maybe. But think about it. In modern political history, every time a sitting VP has run for the nomination, that VP has won. Perhaps it would have been different this time and the eventual nominee would have emerged stronger for the process. But more likely there would have been a bloody primary fight that left the nominee broke and trying to patch together a fractured party to face a Republican party that has become Donald Trump's party. In all probability, VP Harris would have won that primary and been in a weakened and vulnerable position when it was finally resolved in May or June.
I would say to my Democratic friends to go through this post-election process with open minds and hearts but never doubt that the Democratic party is the only pro-democracy party in America. No one will have a position in Trump's administration who is not an election denier adhering to the Big Lie. That's toxic to a country's sense of self and the damage will take a generation to repair, if it is possible to heal.
Losing an election does not mean that you were wrong and they were right. It means you lost an election. I grew up in Mississippi watching my parents back candidates opposed to segregation. When those candidates lost, and they did for a long time, my parents didn't question if they were on the right side. They didn't ask themselves if the majority who supported segregation had proven the justness of their cause by winning.
The mid-terms start after the Super Bowl. It will likely be a good election for Democrats and then the 2028 presidential race will be upon us. After a loss, the days seem long but the months will pass quickly. Reflect, rest up, but come back prepared to fight. Fight not because victory is assured but fight because not to fight is to give up. And if we do that, we no longer deserve to call ourselves Americans.

I, like many of you, have been contemplating our predicament since election night.
We are in a losing war for our democracy and I'm not sure we collectively know who our true adversary is.
It's not the voting blocks...white women, Latinos, Gen X. It's not MAGA. It's not even Trump.
It's an insidious power that has been hiding in the shadows for some time...and when the stakes were at their highest in this election, it fully revealed itself.
The American Oligarchy.
They control our Supreme Court, much of Congress, and the flow of information to the masses via legacy, mainstream and social media.
They decide the national conversation, how to keep us at each other's throats while they continue to amass wealth and power completely unchecked.
They put their thumbs on the scale of justice and poured billions into this election. They chose Trump because he was desperate and would capitulate to their demands. They chose a running mate to replace him in case he became too unhinged to control.
Consider how many disqualifying facts about Trump never saw the light of day...or didn't get the attention they deserved...or got drowned out by propaganda. They took a mentally spent buffoon and presented him as a hero to the masses.
Despite Biden successfully steering us out of a global recession and strengthening our economy, they maintained the national tone about the price of groceries being too high. Despite Trump's obvious mental decline, their media outlets remained reticent to press the issue.
We struggle to unite as a nation because they're too good at keeping us divided. We are drowning in disinformation because they control all of it.
They have successfully created imaginary villains for us to fight...each other.
It seems like we are a democracy careening towards fascism, when the reality is they're using the specter of fascism to keep us on edge while they turn America into a compliant oligarchy.
Whether you are a democrat, republican, independent or MAGA, we have a common foe.
Some of us just don't know it yet.
On the day of her baby shower, 18-year-old Texan Nevaeh Crain began miscarrying and after 3 ER visits, 2 ultrasounds and 20 hours of being denied the medical procedure she desperately needed… she died.
If only she had kept her “legs closed”, right @ksorbs?
So, you want me to believe that you voted for a racist, rapist, convicted felon, business fraud who incited a deadly attack on our Capitol after losing the last election because of the price of eggs?
That you voted for the orange-dipped dude who ran with a different VP because the last one was nearly hanged for not breaking democracy, because you’ve been getting fewer hours at your job these days?
You want me to believe that you voted for someone who nearly every economist in the world has said will grow our debt (which he did by the third largest amount ever the last time), increase our costs, raise inflation and destroy our GDP because a burger and fries at Five Guys is more expensive than it used to be?
You want me to believe that you voted for the drink bleach guy who golfed while thousands of Americans were dying a day because you had it so much better then, when you were stockpiling toilet paper, than you do now?
You want me to believe that you voted for the guy who had 4 years to pass an infrastructure bill and didn’t, the guy who promised Mexico would pay for the wall when they didn’t, the guy who promised to bring manufacturing back, lower the cost of prescription drugs and end the opioid crisis but didn’t, because you preferred his “policies”?
You want me to believe you voted for the “grab em by the pussy” guy who wants to destroy the Department of Education and to repeal the ACA despite the fact that he has nothing more than “concepts of a plan” to replace it, the guy who will roll back environmental protections, strip women and minorities of more rights, the guy who will hand Ukraine to Putin and Gaza to Netanyahu, the guy who has said he will be a “dictator on day one”, because you’re worried about losing your gas stove?
I’m sorry, but I don’t believe any of that, and frankly, I’m not sure you believe it either.
Because the truth is that your vote wasn’t about any of that.
You voted for the traitorous embodiment of the 7 deadly sins because when it came to casting your ballot for a Black woman, you just couldn’t do it.
And because you like getting away with being your worst self.
And because life is a whole lot easier to stomach when all that has gone wrong for you, is someone else’s fault.
Let’s be honest here, that is what it was.
So when the price of eggs is $18, and your Latino neighbors have been deported or moved to some f’d up “camp” to pick the strawberries none of you will pick, and your miscarrying wife has to contend with sepsis before she’s allowed to have an abortion, and your autistic child is unable to get the early intervention they desperately need, please remember what it really was that you voted for.
Because I promise you the rest of us will never, ever forget.

People - including top US journalists, perhaps especially top US journalists - don’t quite get how bad it’s going to be. How beyond term one it’ll be. How bad the Musks and RFKs will be.
I don’t think even I fully accept how bad it’s going to be and I have been shouting how bad it’s going to be for years.

NEW: The election director for Fayette County, PA, filed a new case claiming a township election judge is planning to hand-count ballots in violation of state law, even after being told he cannot do that. Asking for an order compelling the official to comply, and if he won't, to direct the sheriff's office to go in and escort put a poll worker + election materials
