The New York Times on NewJeans:
"Of all the new K-pop acts of the 2020s, the internal candidate most likely to expand the reach and sound of the genre has been NewJeans.
From 2022 to 2024, it proposed a realignment of K-pop along looser and more musical lines, with songs that were gentle, sophisticated and sweet, while never spilling over to saccharine."

Police are expected to decide soon on possible measures regarding HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, who is under suspicion of fraudulent unfair trading.
An official from the National Investigation Headquarters of the Korean National Police Agency said at a regular press briefing on the 22nd that, regarding Chairman Bang’s case, “We are examining whether there are any legally insufficient aspects.”
When asked whether the investigation was being prolonged due to the high-profile legal team hired by Bang, the official responded, “The investigation team is not affected at all,” adding, “A thorough review of the overall investigation is necessary, which is why we are closely examining the case.”

Min Heejin: Ever since the dispute began overseas last year, I had a feeling something was strange. I wondered why people abroad suddenly knew about me and why these odd viral campaigns were happening. Before that, a Billboard reporter contacted me. They showed me something that looked like a bizarre rumor sheet. The content was so strange that I wanted to verify its source. When I asked where it came from, the reporter said it came from TAG PR—that shocked me. Later, I was even more surprised to hear that my name appeared in someone else’s lawsuit in the U.S., involving Hollywood actors.
🗣️: We asked HYBE about this, and they responded that the issue is unrelated to HYBE or HYBE America, and that it is merely a one-sided claim in a legal dispute they are not involved in.
It was reported today that Bang si Hyuk blocked newjeans - a girl group from his own company - from submitting for Grammys because he was jealous newjeans isn’t a group he produced
Since yall only focus on the plagiarism issue, just a reminder that the police is finalizing the application for an arrest warrant Bang Si Hyuk. He is going to jail soon, don’t let anyone bury this.
Min Hee-jin: “I Raised the Allegations of ILLIT’s Plagiarism to Protect NewJeans… HYBE Didn’t Care”

Former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin once again spoke about the circumstances under which she raised allegations of plagiarism involving ILLIT.
On the afternoon of the 18th, Min appeared at a hearing for a civil lawsuit before the 31st Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Nam In-soo), in which she is suing HYBE for payment related to the exercise of a put option. There, she stated, “I wanted to protect NewJeans.”
Min explained that her decision to raise the issue of ILLIT’s alleged plagiarism was “for the sake of protecting NewJeans.” She said, “If you think about my real motive logically, it’s actually very simple. If I had just stayed quiet, I could have exercised the put option in one or two years. What kind of person would do this otherwise? I didn’t come forward over a simple plagiarism dispute. Chairman Bang Si-hyuk truly went too far. He made things difficult from the very debut, and I started to feel like, ‘Has he already squeezed everything he could out of them?’”
She continued, “From the perspective of ADOR’s CEO, NewJeans bears all the damage. As the CEO, I could have stayed quiet and just taken the money, but the harm would go directly to NewJeans. Protecting them is what a CEO is supposed to do.” She added, “People tend to take plagiarism and similarity issues lightly, but for someone, this is a matter of survival.”
Min further stated, “Especially since the parent company (HYBE) didn’t care, there were not only issues of plagiarism, but also a lack of promotion and all sorts of other problems. If I hadn’t raised an objection about the plagiarism, they would have denied it. That’s why I raised the objection.”
In early November last year, Min notified HYBE of her intention to exercise the put option on her ADOR shares. According to the shareholders’ agreement, the base years for calculating the put option were 2022–2023. During that period, ADOR recorded an operating loss of 4 billion won in 2022 and an operating profit of 33.5 billion won in 2023. In 2022, ADOR posted a deficit because NewJeans, its only artist at the time, debuted in July of that year.
According to ADOR’s audit report released in April last year, Min owns 573,160 shares of ADOR stock (18%). Based on this, the amount she could receive is estimated to reach approximately 26 billion won.
HYBE argues that because the shareholders’ agreement was terminated in July, the exercise of the put option is invalid. Min counters that there was no violation of the shareholders’ agreement on her part, and therefore HYBE’s notice of termination has no legal effect.
Min Heejin: If lawyers cut and paste KakaoTalk messages selectively, anyone can be made into a villain overnight. That’s obvious to anyone. I sincerely hope it will be properly judged whether these issues truly belong in a lawsuit over termination of a shareholder agreement.
I hope this lawsuit can help change and advance the industry in some way. If HYBE hadn’t done anything wrong, that would be fine—but if wrongdoing occurs, it must be pointed out. When criticism isn’t allowed, and everything is swept aside with money and intimidation, how can any reform or improvement ever happen?
mhj clocking hybe’s compensation culture three ways:
1. bonuses based on who you know, not what you deliver (catch it tae-ho)
2. stock options treated like freebies instead of earned incentives
3. suddenly calling compensation a problem only when it’s HER contract
so bang pd's house and office have been under a search and seize for the past two days now by the FSS special investigators...
