In engineering safety is our watchword.
During my active days in NEPA there was a day we went for fault clearing on a line (33kv line) and before we move to site we must as a matter of regulation we visited injection substation controlling the line to switch it off. On getting there the line switch was switched off and put a tag "men working" on the switch. Men moved to site, every safety procedures adhered to, mounted ladder, earthed the line and started working. Two hours into the working we heard a large blast,a devastating shocking with intense burn. Two linemen badly affected, ( I didn't want to talk much on the fatality). What could have happened? We did every necessary things. What a loss!!! From the site we went straight to the injection substation to ascertain who could have powered the line. When we got there what happened was shocking! The operator we handed our duty to had closed for his shift but the person who resumed duty was one SHAYO JARABA human being, Werey resumed shift and powered on the switch. Since then whenever we're working on the line our man must stay with the operator at the injection substation.

My colleague is a very reckless spender, because of this, he started saving with his dad. For three years.

Rabbit kit Myth vs Fact

Come close, this is the time to learn another important thing in Rabbit management.

The Myth:
It is a widespread belief that if a human touches a baby rabbit, the mother (doe) will smell the human scent and immediately reject or even kl|| the baby.

The Fact:
This is very untrue especially for domestic rabbits. A mother rabbit’s maternal instincts are much stronger than her sensitivity to a foreign scent, especially if she is used to human interaction.

But should You Touch Them?

Yes! You can but gently. As a rabbit farmer, your key task is to check kits daily to remove dead ones, make sure everyone is feeding well (round belly=good), and to also get them accustomed to human interaction.

However, be sure to wash your hands first and handle them briefly (don't hold them like you're holding Semo that's about to enter Soup

But why Do Mothers Reject Kits?

It’s not even about human scent, rejection mostly happens due to stress, first-time mother confusion, or the mother being unhealthy and unable to care for her litter and also if she has more babies that she can feed, she focuses on the strongest and neglects the weakest.

How to care for Newborn Kits

• Keep the nest area calm and clean.
• Wash hands before touching.
• You can rub your hands on the mother’s fur to blend scent or some clean nesting materials to mask human scents.
• Check once a day for warmth and full bellies.
• If a kit is cold or thin, quick intervention may be needed but hand-rearing is tough

Finally, avoid hovering around the nest... Some people no go let the rabbit rest, every 20mins dem dey check they disturb them. Stop hovering over them you're stressing the mother. Allow them to be!

on the last night shift of house job in Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital... we had 3 cases of ectopic pregnancy that needed immediate surgery...

it was like a movie. All of them had burst in the tummy. They came in one after the other.

Immediately after one surgery... the next came...

Ooh!... I made enemies with all the lab people... 🤭🤭... to get blood and blood tests result... I didn't care if you were the CMD, wake up and do your job!... I banged all the doors... you can't be sleeping when I'm awake by 2am...

At a point my senior registrar asked me for blood results 2 minutes after collecting... I asked him if he wanted me to spin the blood in my mouth?🤭😭😭

it was peak emergency, 3 women can die just like that... I was ruthless, but very efficient... I apologised to all of them at the end of house job... to my surprise, they all respected me

Maybe that's when I fell in love with obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Looking back now, those surgeries could have been done without a large cut to their tummies... could have been done with laparoscopy!... but again, we didn't lose any patient and that's what mattered!...

My sister was coming home from work one evening when their bus ran into kidnappers . Immediately people started jumping out of the bus, running in different directions just to escape.

At the time, she was 35 weeks pregnant.
She managed to get down and started running like everyone else. But in the rush, someone accidentally pushed her, and she fell hard.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital. The doctors ran tests to check on the baby, and that was when they discovered that her placenta had detached.

Without hesitation, they prepared her for an emergency C-section.

The baby was delivered prematurely and had to be placed in an incubator for nearly two weeks. But that surgery saved that child’s life.

So when you sit comfortably and speak down on women who go through C-sections, it only shows ignorance and insensitivity. C-sections are not a weakness, they are a life-saving intervention that has saved countless mothers and babies.

I have an aunt that was a total baddie, total Free Love Boomer into her early 30s, got loads of abortions, then completed her PhD and settled down with a lawyer. Divorced him, another lawyer. Divorced him, third lawyer. Separated from him, tried to make it work for years, had an affair with a guy that owned a contracting firm, got a quick divorce and was at the altar two weeks after it was finalized. Same deal, it turned sour after a while, they both found Jesus, got church counseling, it didn't work out, started dating the tallest and wealthiest retired lawyer at her church, just married him last year.

So she's on marriage number five, in her 60s, never had kids of her own, and has absolutely no issue whatsoever finding educated, wealthy, good looking men with all their hair interested in her.

Some time ago, I was in the car with my aunt when a man suddenly left his lane and swerved into ours.

She did everything she could to avoid an accident.

Instead of apologizing, he started shouting, “See na woman,” while making dismissive hand gestures .

I just heard a story and my body is shaking…

A 13-year old boy in Maiduguri was selling sugarcane in a wheelbarrow for his father.
Inside the scorching sun, he decided to push his wheelbarrow to a nearby tree for shade & for him to rest for a while.

As he pushed his wheelbarrow tired, he mistakenly brushed the front of a parked car & the headlamp fell off. He looked around & couldn’t find the owner. His conscience didn’t let him walk away from the car. So he waited for the owner who happened to be praying in a nearby mosque.
The owner finished his prayers & found this 13-year old boy and the damage he has done. He called the police and ordered the boy be put in prison.

Recently, this 13-year old boy just got released from prison, after spending 47 years in prison, at the age of 60 years.
At this point, I broke down in tears.
He was literally moved from one prison to the other all over Nigeria in the course of this 47 years in prison.
He only got released because a governor granted him pardon.

May Nigeria never happen to you.

I just listened to a crazy story on IG about a US-based content creator. He met a Nigerian woman in Naija, who is also a content creator. They got married, and he brought her to the US.

He already had a house in the US and had bought an apartment in Lekki, Lagos. His wife gave birth to two kids, and they later started having problems in the marriage.

The matter went to court, and the judge ruled in her favor: she kept the US house while he kept the Lagos one. He even begged her to keep the Lagos house while he stayed in his US house, but she refused.

When they got home, she told him to move out immediately. He decided he wouldn’t go down without a fight and later did a DNA test on the two kids, discovering they were not his.

He got a good lawyer, and the case turned in his favor. She begged him to forgive her, but he didn’t budge. She got deported, and as soon as she landed in Nigeria, she went to the Lekki house.

He called his family members in Lagos to throw her out and change the locks. Everyone in the comments said the brotherhood is proud of him.

So we now shame mothers that can't afford Pampers during immunization.
This mother refused to undress her baby in public for me to weigh and asked that she would like to use the restroom, if you know how public restroom is, you will know I told her NO.

She then sounded really uncomfortable, I asked what is it and she said "I wore him napkin, if I open it here, everybody will look at me one kind, last time they mocked me".

I encouraged her to do while standing in a way that you can't see whats going on, the baby's butt cheek is as smooth as it could be, even cleaner than some babies with pampers.

Pampers are good
But napkin are not bad either if you know how to maintain it.
