PMX says an “extraordinary appreciation” for the rakyat will be announced on Monday (July 21) or Tuesday (July 22).

Coincidentally, the govt is also taking on another RM5b in new debt on July 21, after borrowing RM7b in the last two weeks.

This brings total net borrowings in 2025 to RM81.28b, breaching the RM80b ceiling set in Budget 2025.

*Don’t pass the buck again to the King*

1.Does PM Anwar understand the Federal Constitution?

2.If he does, then why is he misleading the Dewan Rakyat and the public on the functions of the Pardons Board and the King’s role in it?

3.His claim that the PM cannot comment on the operations of the Pardon Board has no basis in law or Constitution. PM can comment because it is not the decision of the King. The King must act according to advice of the Board (Article 40(1) FC). The AG and a cabinet Minister sit in the Pardons Board.

4.Therefore, of course, the operations of the pardons board can be questioned in parliament. That is democratic accountability. Any “reformist” worth his salt should know this.

5.For Anwar’s info, the only situation where the King can act in his own discretion is in Article 40(2) (a), (b) and (c); which does not include decisions of the Pardons Board.

6.Anwar needs to stop claiming that it was the King who made all the decisions regarding former PM Najib’s pardons process. He’s talking legal nonsense. Anwar seems to have forgotten that our King is a constitutional monarch, who acts on the advice of the government.

7.He has to stop hiding behind the King or passing the buck to him; particularly so in this matter, which is politically controversial.
