We hate seeing fresh fruit go to waste. Community Fruit Harvesting picks unwanted fruit from backyards and orchards around NZ and shares it with those in need.
We have two groups in the Weymouth and Franklin area that would really benefit from a chest freezer to keep fruit until the volunteer preservers get a chance to make jam. Does anyone have any contacts or have a chest freezer that they could donate?

A huge thanks to Gilly from Jericho Road Orchards for the figs, that would have gone to feed the pigs, but instead will be used to make delicious jam and chutney for the foodbanks. To our volunteer preservers, please come and get some to make jam for us.
How has your fig harvesting been going this year? Do you have pear trees? I would be interested to know if the guava moth has spread to other varieties of fruit. So far: feijoas, citrus fruit and plums :-(

A very successful day picking the nashi pear orchard on Saturday - wonderful organising by Chris and a huge thanks to the orchard owner and the volunteers - about 600 kgs were picked and that is a drop int he ocean compared to what is still there!
