Ukraine's July supplemental budget boosts 2025 defence spending by nearly $10B, to 31% of the country's projected GDP, the world's highest share.
@SIPRI ranks Israel second at 8.8%. But in absolute terms, @Ukraine spent $20B more on defence than Israel last year

Met @KGeorgieva in Kyiv to discuss UA’s upcoming IMF program. My main message: UA is delivering on its commitments. Tax collection is stable&strong, despite blackouts and constant Russian attacks. Q1 2026 is financed, but swift IMF Board approval will unlock EU and IMF support
At least $120B is Ukraine’s defense need for 2026. Russia burns $150B on war each year. At @yes_ukraine I said it plain: don’t bill EU taxpayers. Make Russia pay. Seize Russian assets or transfer them to Ukraine under a #ReparationsLoan@cafreeland@carlbildt@Denys_Shmyhal
Ukraine's wrapping up the 1st phase of EU accession talks at record speed. Joined the screening of UA legislation under “Financial & Budgetary Provisions” - a key step to ensure Ukraine’s ready to contribute to the EU budget. Awaiting Cluster 1's opening - let's make it happen!
🇺🇦🇪🇺 @pidlasa: Met with the DG @ecfin team — Director Maarten Verwey, Annika Eriksgård and Stéphanie Pamis. We discussed the new EU support instrument for Ukraine — the #Reparations Loan, as well as the accelerated disbursement of €6 billion under #ERA loans this autumn. I also had the opportunity to address Ukraine’s international financing needs for 2026, as its stability and predictability are extremely important for us.
European and US sanctions must make Russians feel that this war affects them too. Instead, today, Polish civilians lose sleep from Russian drones, while ordinary Russians feel little cost. #StopRussia before it's too late
Last night the Polish airspace was violated by a huge number of Russian drones. Those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down. I am in constant communication with the Secretary General of NATO and our allies.
🇺🇦🇪🇺 @pidlasa: Together with @taraskachka, we held a briefing for the EU Member States’ ambassadors in Brussels. Glad that all 27 missions joined the meeting at the Estonian Representation. We discussed Ukraine’s EU accession as a security guarantee, funding for 2026–2027 and the extension of ERA loans, as well as the new sanctions package against russia. Thank you @KyllikeSillaste for the hospitality and support! 🇪🇪

This is Ukraine’s PM @Svyrydenko_Y inside the government building hit by a Russian drone today. Some offices are destroyed, others flooded from firefighting. Just walls - but it shows again: Russia has no limits. They kill infants, women, and sabotage Ukraine any way they can.
At least 2 people were killed in last night’s Russian drone attack on Kyiv. A government building is on fire. Moscow’s actions show one thing clearly: Russia has no interest in peace #StopRussiaNow
Met with the #IMFmission in Kyiv. Ukraine faces a $120B annual war cost in 2026 - half will come from our state budget. The 100,000 Russian troops near Pokrovsk show Russia isn't ready to end the war. Strong IMF & partner support is vital for our budget & reforms agenda.
Reuters reports that Trump urged EU leaders to stop buying Russian oil, as it helps Moscow fund its war against Ukraine. Let's be clear: only Hungary and Slovakia are still importing Russian crude - every other EU country halted those imports in 2022
Russia robbed Ukraine of more than a decade of growth.
Ukraine’s GDP:
2013 – $190.5B
2014 – Russia annexes Crimea, invades Donbas
2015 – $91B (collapse)
…
2021 – $199.7B (finally recovered)
2022 – Russia launches full-scale war
…
2024 – $190.7B (back where we started)
@mobbs_mentality@RTW_Foundation Why do all these people on X conveniently forget that the only reason Ukrainians are being killed is Russia and Russian army?
@kiraincongress Putin’s dream: sanctions lifted, Ukraine reduced to a stunted Russian protectorate - just so Russians don’t accidentally wake up to the fact they could have a better life in a democracy
In August, Ukraine’s Drone Forces struck Russian oil refineries 17 times. Reuters previously reported 10 strikes, noting 17% of Russia’s refining capacity or 1.1M barrels/day was disrupted. @usf_army, @DI_Ukraine, and @SOF_UKR impose Ukrainian energy sanctions. Way to go!
@Mylovanov At the Shanghai Summit, Putin blamed NATO and the West for the "Ukrainian crisis" and demanded the removal of "root causes" for peace. Again. It is clear, that Russia remains committed to invest in the war and it is Putin who's not ready for genuine peace talks
The #IMF mission has started work in Kyiv, holding consultations with 🇺🇦 on the 2026 budget, fiscal forecast, monetary policy, financial sector, and structural reforms. Key talks with Ukraine’s authorities and partners are underway. #Ukraine@IMFNews
@carlbildt Interestingly, NATO doesn't drag Russia's neighbors into the Alliance. But many, including Ukraine, are willing to join to protect themselves from Russian expansive wars. Nobody did more to nurture Ukraine's NATO aspirations than Putin himself.
