In 1934, Robert Pirosh quit his high-paying job as a copywriter and left NYC for Hollywood to pursue his dreams of becoming a screenwriter.
When he arrived in Los Angeles, he proceeded to send the cover letter above to every director, producer and studio executive he could find in the phone book. He was able to secure a total of three interviews, which led to a job as a junior writer for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
He worked on a number of films during the 1930s and when World War 2 broke out, he served as a Master Sergeant with the 320th Regiment, seeing action on the frontiers of France, Germany and Belgium.
In 1949, exactly 15 years after he had quit his job in NYC to pursue his dreams, Pirosh won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the film, Battleground (1949).
@lechataucafe ahahah yesssss.... it's an underrated Ghibli! Fun little heist adventure and I'm obsessed with the soundtrack. I'm so glad you're enjoying it :)
