Two years ago, I had a discussion with Marc.

My thesis was that all datastore SaaS is a race to the bottom in long term. Not because non technical people will code the tools, but because it becomes cheaper for a few technical ones to create software specifically catered to your need than to maintain big space ships that can do everything. And if you play long enough in such conditions real defensibility is behind one of these: safety, regulations (e.g. finance), market effects (marketplaces) and hard to collect assets (like accumulated data).

Now if we assumed for a moment that creating software is not just cheap, but free. Let's say LLM labs finally eat the software and just for mare 59$ a month they can build whatever you ask them to. Does that mean SaaS is done? What I would still pay for instead of building?

And that mostly is access. Access to data, compute, electrons, a market or even permission to operate from a gov. There are rare cavities, like API aggregators that pay per api access as a business and it is pricier to pay for access yourself in bulk. But for the most of it, it's scarcity that is what's left.

There are opinions that currently people are limited by marketing skills and the current moat is UGC, SEO or just good ads. But at the bottom of it, the cheaper software gets, the less it's going to be an issue. As in case of 59$ a month do it all subscription would take your ad as a promt and build the tools for the user.

Even tough I saw this coming two years ago, I still struggle to position myself and find a good bet.

@Dirdmaster What I failed to explain though, that you don't need godot dev stuff for this. It runs the assembly like a game loading assets

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

I can sim OpenSCAD gears with forces!

It's very primitive. But honestly will do most of what I wanted.

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

Decided to try it out. NGL, it might look shitty, but it works!

The bodies are created in openscad, then imported to godot. ATM they default to steel material properties and I can join them on predefined scad points. Run/reset the sim.

I think I'll try next creating a scad assembly with "joints" and auto convert it to an assembly.

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

Openscad + python glue + godot.

The idea behind it is to have assemblies that run quick, with close enough physics. This way I should have a primitive way to test my machines and iterate on the design. Also this might serve as documentation.

Best part I can track all of this with git

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@realwillreil Envy you in a good way!

Do all CAD assemblies just suck?

I'm thinking about to switching to OpenSCAD and Godot for assemblies and as a BONUS I'll get physical simulations?

Am I missing something?

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@Dirdmaster @robin7331 We'll get it in eastern europe😝

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@realwillreil Can you use anti-static spray on these?

I'm not sure if this is a thing though, my wife uses them for clothes during winter

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@realwillreil Feeders are so expensive 😭 I wonder if BambooFeader is any good

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@Dirdmaster @BackplaneWorks @zackslab Actually this is a good advice. I'll mute it as well

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@_Stocko_ I think Iron Man was on to something.

Using voice for smart homes feels less intruisive than a random screen mounted on the wall

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

Not an engineer, but assembling stuff, even on a small scale, taught me more than any amount of courses or rules.

I'm currently designing a device made out of 600 identical units. It's not much, but this is precisely why I'm afraid to pay the manufacturing bill until I reach a point where I can assemble them quickly.

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@gnukeith what the hell

now I have a new party trick

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@scottastronaut pretty much anything you want. You can create DXF to custom gcode, or layout optimizers. Do some crazy CAD that would be impossible to define using regular tools

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@_Stocko_ @Dirdmaster This is super cool! thank you for sharing, i'll have a look at solvespace!

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@blind_via ahh, the natural evolution in action. Everything eventually becomes a crab

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@Dirdmaster Yes! Though is this a solved assembly, or just an animation controlled by t(ime) variable?

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@Dirdmaster @i2cjak +1

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@Dirdmaster At least from what I found Openscad has assemblies in a sense of creating modules and combining them in a single file? But not joint assemblies with solvers. As in you can really move something to check motion paths/clearance?

[Pijus @pijusdotdev]

@Dirdmaster Godot has Jolt engine. I'm thinking about translating all parts in the right places and defining joints in godot. Also naturally I should see if everything fits well or collides.

I'm thinking about a few python scripts to glue everything together
