@alloutevelynn Similarly a lot of self-insert fiction is written for the fulfillment of the author (they are the ones inserting themself into the story after all), but people always attribute it as a cheap tool meant to appeal to a large audience.
@alloutevelynn Another thing is that twitter doesnt understand is that the devs also just like fanservice. many of them are fans as well who eat it up, just like the majority of the games audience does. Not everything has to be a ploy to make money.
@Iovelykdj@bluemusing Maybe you are not too familiar with chinese fantasy stories but each realm/region/world is meant to be a stepping stone for the MC. You might be having issue with the chosen/fated one trope, but that is just a mainstay of the genre.
@bluemusing@Iovelykdj chinese fantasy stories dont follow the heroes journey as there rarely ever is a return act in chinese fantasies. What are the issues though?
@Iovelykdj@bluemusing the story is about tb and their ascension to aeon, so it would obviously center on tbs perspective. Learning about the planets is just what happens along the journey. Have you not read adventure stories before?
@NorthTV__@elysiuego Definitely recommend Lord of the mysteries though. Considered one of the goat web novels and was one of the direct inspirations for HSR. Its also the one that isnt in ancient china setting so you wont be overwhelmed by a shit ton of new terminology/tropes
@NorthTV__@elysiuego Lord of the mysteries, Reverend Insanity or Er Gens (Renegade Immortal/I shall seal the heavens) are the classic ones. Warning though is that these are web novels so they are very lengthy (1000-2000+ chapters), pretty convoluted, and have mediocre tls. But that is HSR as well lol
@NorthTV__@elysiuego You should look into other Chinese high fantasies. They usually all revolve around ascending to godhood/immortality (xianxia are daoism based, xuanhuan are more gnosticism based). Lord of the mysteries would be most similar to HSR
@elatingly The theme is intrinsic to the genre as they are all about the upheaval of the natural order, if you are old of it you should look to other genres.
@justMizuyuki the way fandoms call other fans larpers is weird in the first place, I understand the sentiment when they are arguing against misinfo/hate but doing it over minor stuff like this is stupid
@sandbinka people also dont understand that hoyo is by far the best at delivering live service games. The lower quality is simply a trade-off for being able to get consistent updates every six weeks. Western devs have already given up on attempting new pve live service games.
@01_Yaksha@RebornShadows ye but it explain the abundance of waifu/husbando chars and how the story is told in character centric patches (similar to routes in a vn)
@01_Yaksha@RebornShadows What makes CN stories distinct is the lore focus, due to the bigger focus on mythology and geopolitics. Presentation is because they come from visual novels, the dating sim genre where the entire story is told through anime pngs talking to each other
@DeadeyeDanny86@RebornShadows thats every live service game due to inevitable complexity creep as the playerbase becomes more skilled. look at early league kits vs new ones
@TaleSpun First of all you guys are often only see the AAA games, there is much more variance you dont see. Also you do not understand how much the Chinese love their wuxia/xianxia. action rpgs are just the most natural way of adapting those genres.
