What does it take to go the extra mile for our retailers?
For us, it means supporting thousands of retailers. It means being there when they need help, answering their questions, helping them navigate Pika App, resolving issues, and making sure their concerns get the attention they need.
A lot of that work happens behind the scenes, but it makes a difference every day.
Happy Customer Service Week to our Retailer Success and Account Executive teams.❤️
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!🇳🇬
How does Nigeria's informal market celebrate October 1st? We looked at data from Lagos, October 2025, to find out.
It started with drinks. Pepsi 600ml and American Cola 600ml sold 5x to 8x their daily average, and beverages made up 53% of all transactions that day. Indomie Chicken 70g orders were 1.7x the daily average too. By the end of the day, shops had recorded ₦1.60M in transaction value, 13% above the daily average.
At Pika Insights, we use data from Nigeria's neighbourhood shops to help brands understand what is happening in informal retail.

Our Account Executives are the people closest to the retailers we serve. They’re a real powerhouse at Pika Insights.
Yesterday, they had a coaching session with the team, sharing what they’re seeing on the ground and the small details they pick up from working closely with retailers every day.
These conversations fill in the gaps and give us a fuller picture of what’s happening in the market.
We want what our team learns on the ground to be part of how we understand retailers and decide what we build next for them.

Nigeria’s FMCG numbers for Q1 2026 tell an interesting story. Unit growth is up past 8%. Value growth is under 1%.
Worldpanel points to easing inflation as part of why. Prices are still going up, just not as sharply as they were in 2025. That small bit of breathing room means people are shopping a little more often and buying a little more each time.
Food and beverages are seeing most of that growth. Personal care hasn’t picked up as much, people are still cautious with that spending.
A national number can only tell you so much though. It won’t say which retailers are seeing this first, or which streets, or which categories are already moving. That level of detail is what PikaView tracks.

What tools do Nigerian retailers need to make their businesses more organized?
We spent time with Pika App users in Lagos to find out. For a retailer in Somolu, it was easier calculations. For one in Bariga, it was remembering who took goods on credit.
These may sound like small things, but for people building their livelihoods through their businesses, they matter.

Market intelligence has never been more accessible.
There are reports, dashboards, consumer studies and category data covering Africa’s informal retail environment. But having more information does not necessarily mean having a better understanding of what is happening in the market.
The real challenge is turning all that information into insight that can support the decisions a business needs to make. For FMCG teams, that might mean looking beyond category performance to the realities of individual markets, channels and retail environments.
The bigger picture matters. So does what is happening at the retailer level. Connecting the two gives businesses a clearer view of the market and the dynamics at play.

Distribution is often treated as the finish line. In reality, it’s where a different set of questions begins.
Most commercial teams have a clear view of distribution. What matters just as much is how products perform once they reach retailers. Are some products selling faster than others? Are products performing differently across locations? And how should those differences influence the next commercial decision?
The right data helps answer those questions.
There's no shortage of excellence in Africa's informal retail markets. It's simply operating in silos.
In this conversation on Business Morning Live, our founder, Sadiq Edu, shares how Pika App is helping bring visibility to informal retail and unlock growth opportunities for informal retailers.

Close to 90% of Nigeria's retail sales happen through informal trade.
Yet most of the tools brands can leverage to track sales and stock movement were built for supermarkets and chain stores.
Every sale logged on the Pika App becomes a signal in PikaView, giving brands a unified view of the market they couldn't see before.

How can local markets begin to capture and use consumer data without requiring massive investment in infrastructure?
This was the question Cherry Ojukwu asked @eliezerajah, Head of Job Creation at @3MTTNigeria, on @AfiaTvOfficial. His response pointed to the progress already happening on the ground.
Our Co-founder, Sadiq Edu, will be joining @LagosTalks913 FM today at 5:00 PM for a conversation on Informal Business Sectors in Nigeria: Building Financial Inclusion & Data Infrastructure.

We learned a lot at Pika’s Product Simulation Day, but one thing stood out. Nothing beats experiencing your product the way your users do.
Here’s the team using the app the way a retailer would.
