BHARTIYA NYAYA SANHITA PROVIDES FOR ZERO FIR .

UNDERSTAND ZERO FIR HERE IN EASY STEPS.

•ZERO FIR: An FIR that can be filed at any police station irrespective of the jurisdiction where the crime occurred. It ensures immediate registration and initiation of the investigation process without jurisdictional delays.

1.LODGING A ZERO FIR

◦Step 1: Complainant approaches any police station, regardless of the crime location.
◦Step 2: SHO or duty officer records the complaint details in the Zero FIR register.
◦Step 3: Information can be given orally or electronically.
◦Special Provisions: For women and disabled individuals, the information must be recorded by a woman officer or at a convenient location with necessary support.

2.PRELIMINARY ENQUIRY

◦Step 4: For offences punishable for 3-7 years, a preliminary enquiry may be conducted with prior permission from a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
◦Step 5: The enquiry must ascertain if there is a prima facie case within 14 days.

3.REGISTRATION AND COPY TO COMPLAINANT

◦Step 6: After fulfilling the requirements, the Zero FIR is registered.
◦Step 7: The FIR number is prefixed with "Zero" to indicate it is a Zero FIR.
◦Step 8: A copy of the FIR is provided to the complainant free of cost.

4.TRANSFER

◦Step 9: The Zero FIR is forwarded to the police station with jurisdiction over the crime location.
◦Step 10: The receiving police station re-registers it as a regular FIR.

5.INVESTIGATION

◦Step 11: The SHO assigns the FIR to an investigating officer.
◦Step 12: The investigating officer proceeds with the investigation as per standard procedures.
◦Step 13: Regular updates on the investigation are provided to the complainant.
