Fifteen years ago, the US was richer than Western Europe but suffered from lower life expectancy.
My expectation at the time was we would see convergence on both scores.
That did not happen and instead the USA pulled further ahead on growth and fell further behind on health.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) wants to build the world’s longest gondola in Little Cottonwood Canyon (LCC). Stretching over 8 miles long and reaching over 260 feet tall, the gondola would only stop at two private ski resorts–Snowbird and Alta–but Utah taxpayers would foot the $1.4 billion bill.
The gondola would permanently disrupt access to trailheads and recreation sites, endanger 1,200 plant and animal species, and jeopardize an important source of drinking water for people in the Salt Lake Valley. The construction of gondola towers would destroy two critical designations that have protected our land and water resources in LCC for decades: Inventoried Roadless Areas and Riparian Habitat Conservation Areas.
The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC), a group of local mayors and other officials, is holding a public meeting to discuss whether to include the gondola in its Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), which would make it easier for the project to be funded. As climate change and growing visitation introduce new pressures in the Wasatch Mountains, we must improve transportation options for all visitors, not just resort skiers.
How you can help:
1) Sign the petition calling on Utah’s elected officials to protect Little Cottonwood Canyon from the world’s longest gondola: https://t.co/NaMkVSp1GJ
2) Join us in person at the Wasatch Front Regional Council meeting on May 25 at 2pm to advocate for the protection of Little Cottonwood Canyon. (Address: 41 N Rio Grande St., SLC, UT) https://t.co/7ixN2Zp1Qs
We stand with our community and call on local leaders to invest in solutions that promote equitable access to our public lands, such as increasing bus service, electrifying it, and expanding it to serve all visitors, all seasons of the year.

Depressing.
I was nearly hit by a car yesterday while crossing in a crosswalk.
We need better pedestrian infrastructure and to stop building for car travel as the default.
Kevin McCarthy has proposed a vote on a proposal called the Fair Tax, which would abolish the current federal income tax and replace it with a 30% national sales tax. 30 percent.
Amazon is ending its AmazonSmile program in which you could designate a charity to receive a small percentage of all your Amazon purchases (I have used this for years)
@TheLo_Cal @USMNT But it was a promoted tweet for me and just pissed me right off. Debate who is in better form or who fits the tactics better sure, but to ask who should never even attend a camp? C’mon. It’s the honor of a lifetime for many professionals.

Gaetz says the move will bring “greater transparency and humanizing the entire process…Our fellow Americans deserve to know when we are frustrated with one another, kind to one another, present, or absent. The current pool view of the Congress is antiquated and boomer-fied.”
I think C-SPAN should keep control of the cameras on the house floor. It makes our democracy more accessible, understandable, and exciting. Let the people see Democracy in action. #FreeCSPAN
A lot of shade being cast at Republicans right now, but if the Democrats vote in bloc for Jeffries vote after vote instead of finding a compromise candidate to get on board with, they're demonstrating equal levels of non-seriousness & proving that they're part of the dysfunction.
