Tip for new developers or even seasoned developers working in a legacy codebase: Make a meaningful contributions using the existing paradigms and APIs before attempting to replace or rearchitect them.
I've been doing my own primitive form of outlining in TextEdit using tabs for too long. I just started using Bike and I now see what I've been missing. I highly recommend trying it to quickly express and organize thoughts hierarchically.
Bike 1.3 is out of preview and now available through software update. Lots of smaller changes including preference for default document types and some new scripting commands.
