I gave Grok, GPT, Gemini and DeepSeek the same 340 invoices and asked for the total.

Correct answer: $1,705,148.23

Grok got it exactly right.
GPT(terra) got it exactly right.
Gemini lost $9,727.73.
DeepSeek invented an extra $75,491.58.

Then I gave them a second chance: use Python, SQL or any deterministic tool.

Gemini corrected itself. DeepSeek returned a different wrong answer: $1,726,683.92.

But the number wasn’t the weird part.

DeepSeek printed Python code, claimed it had processed all 340 rows and described the result as an “exact calculation.”

It had never executed the code.

It generated the calculation, generated the answer, then generated the evidence that supposedly verified the answer.

A wrong total is easy to catch.

A wrong total wrapped in code and a fake audit trail looks like completed work.

That is the agent problem in one screenshot: the model can fabricate not only the decision, but the receipt that tells the next system to trust it.
