If you:
▪️are outraged by what happened to the Post Office victims
▪️share the pain of Grenfell survivors
▪️cried with the Hillsborough families
Have you ever wondered why the pattern keeps repeating?
Break the cycle of injustice.
Ask your MP to support a #HillsboroughLawNow.
Just finished ‘#TIME’ on #BBC, it’s probably the most PTSD inducing, realistic drama depicting #prison life, with the dark & light that comes from serving inside. I relived my time inside through the 3 episodes which was hard but glad it shows a true portrayal of life behind bars
The UK have one of the highest reoffending rates. A clear indication that the system has failed & continues to fail. Building more prison places proves that the system is aware of these failures, but also indicates that profit is more important than rehabilitation.
The strength to stand there and protect their teammate from the cameras whilst everything was going on.
Absolute class. The Denmark players are a credit to their country.
We know from decades of studies and research that trauma heals in the context of healthy relationships.
We also know that prisons are nurseries for untreated trauma, so in the context of healthy relationships — is prison the right environment for healing? #Rehabilitation
Sentencing laws and jail or prison time don’t “prevent” crime. Incarceration is a response AFTER harm is committed. The thought of incarceration as “prevention” is absolutely illogical.
When you understand the trauma of poverty you totally get why people will do anything to escape that sense of lack in their life.
“Poverty is the parent of crime,” wrote Aristotle... how true!
Trauma is not primarily about the fight or flight response. It’s also about the shut down response to emotions and feeling!
The hardened criminal was once a sensitive child, who’s adaptation was to harden themselves against a harsh environment.
When you know, you know ✌🏽
When we know something isn’t working but we continue to use it then it becomes very obvious that incarceration is not about justice, public safety, or rehabilitation it’s about money.
One of the most wonderful parts about life is we all have the capacity to grow & change. This is done through education, support, understanding, & finding one’s own self worth. It’s done with love. A criminal justice system must recognize the capacity to change in all people!
No school should have Zero tolerance policies. They cause the school to prison pipeline & they fail to recognize adolescent brain development & that Kids will make bad choices. As adults we must teach them how to make the right ones & we don’t do that by giving up on them.
We are mourning the passing of our treble-winning manager, Gerard Houllier.
The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool Football Club are with Gerard’s family and many friends.
Rest in peace, Gerard Houllier 1947-2020.
Gorgeous front page from tomorrow’s Yorkshire Evening Post.
