Notice how many big banks have been fined for fraud and other misconduct:

1. Bank of America (2014) fined $16.65 billion for misleading investors about the quality of mortgage-backed securities, contributing to the 2008 financial crisis.

2. JPMorgan Chase (2013) fined $13 billion for similar misconduct related to mortgage-backed securities leading up to the financial crisis.

3. Wells Fargo (2020) faced $3 billion in fines for the fake accounts scandal where millions of unauthorized accounts were created by employees.

4. BNP Paribas (2014) fined $8.9 billion for violating U.S. sanctions against Sudan, Iran, and Cuba.

5. Goldman Sachs (2022) agreed to pay over $2.9 billion in penalties for their role in the 1MDB scandal, where money was embezzled from a Malaysian state fund.

6. Deutsche Bank (2017) was fined $7.2 billion for misleading investors about the quality of its mortgage-backed securities.

7. Citigroup (2014) fined $7 billion for its part in the mortgage crisis by selling faulty mortgage-backed securities to investors.

8. Credit Suisse (2014) fined $2.6 billion for helping U.S. clients evade taxes.

These fines are part of broader enforcement efforts to hold financial institutions accountable and deter future misconduct.

The European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favor of lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western-supplied weapons against targets on Russian territory.

425 MEPs voted in favor.
131 were against.
63 abstained.

The resolution also urges the EU to speed up arms deliveries, expand sanctions on Russia, and impose a full embargo on Russian LNG and oil exports.
