@evornithology Soil bacteria on bat wings is good for bats! (they outcompete Pd - the fungus that causes white-nose syndrome). It's kind of wild when you start looking at microbiota. Do people swab bird wings? I bet bank swallows share some microbial communities with bats!
@drdagly I appreciate all of your posts. Thank goodness for your buddy. And thanks for staying with us. BTW - I mentioned way back my kid applied to med school? She got in! After doing an MSc in Neuroscience! She is in your neighbourhood. 😀 Just a bit of good news for you! Class of 2028.
@agenderarcee@albertabats Sadly, yes. And our work with the Alberta Bat Program included some early season netting, where we confirmed Little Browns with the disease in AB for the first time. We have a video about the findings https://t.co/tchwrgfciG
It's the last day of #BatWeek! Today is my birthday and I'm still looking for support for the bat program. We don't ask for $$$ very often - we need bats - please support this important work. #OctoberForBats (link below)
It's #BatWeek! So, I've been busy posting on the @albertabats platforms. We are fundraising for the bat program this month using "Just Giving" platform. I'm hoping to raise some $$ for bats! Any support would be appreciated! #OctoberForBats

Trade in bats must stop! Our new paper, led by @BronwenHunter highlights scale of online trade. Most buyers from Europe and N America; most bats from Global South. Some platforms are tightening rules, but still easy to find @AmazonUK. @_BCT_@BatConIntl https://t.co/dZAQGws3Hw

The Big Brown Bat (Eptesicus fuscus) is found across Alberta, munching on a variety of insects—especially beetles! With a strong bite perfect for big bugs, they’re a key player in pest control and happily use bat houses. Truly a #FarmersFriend! 🦇🌾 #AlbertaBats
We have been focusing our public fundraising campaign in October to align with #BatWeek we agree #OctoberForBats should become a tradition! Bats do so much for us, small donations from many can make a big difference. #BeBatFriendly#SupportBatConservation https://t.co/zZDhlbdAoS
Big Brown Bats are found across North America. Arguably one of the "work horses" consuming pest insects like beetles & moths that benefit farmers across the continent.
We have recruited some #BatFriends at @MountRoyalU in YYC! The students in the Conservation Biology class are doing some bat outreach for #BatWeek with an information table (with our gear). Great Job! #SciComm
