I want to tell you a little about where I come from, because it explains why I’m in this fight.

I grew up a poor kid in a town full of poor kids. There were times my family needed food assistance. When I was 13, there were days when we didn’t have heat or running water.

I’ll never forget hearing my mother quietly crying because she wanted to do more for us and couldn’t.

After high school, I became a logger like my dad, his dad, and his dad before him.

When greedy landowners tried to screw my fellow loggers and me out of fair wages, we fought back. A lot of politicians promised they would help us, including a newly elected Senator Susan Collins.

Then they left us high and dry.

That’s when I realized nothing was going to change unless working people had somebody in the room fighting for them.

So I ran for the Maine Legislature. I served for 20 years, including six as President of the Maine Senate.

For years, I drove hours each way between Allagash and Augusta because that was the job. I kept winning in a district Donald Trump carried by 20 points because people where I come from care less about party labels than whether you give a damn about their families.

I’m bringing that same fight to this race.

I’m not running for the billionaires or the corporate crowd. I’m running for the mother trying to figure out whether she can afford groceries and fill her gas tank. I’m running for the kid whose future depends on whether we invest in a good public education. I’m running for people who work hard and still feel like they can’t get ahead.

Working people have been getting the short end of the stick for too long.

It’s time we did something about it.

I think Beshear's unwillingness to push on this shows he is not the fighter Dems need for the White House run in '28.

It's the same walking on eggshells that gave us Merrick Garland.

If he can't push on McConnell's health, then why would we think he has the drive to go after Trump cronies, to root out the corruption the entrenched, and to fight to prosecute those who aided foreign interference.

I actually thought he was a strong wildcard pick with potential for the '28 ticket. Not top of my list, but not bottom either.
