In this video, @pirelenito will tell you about the history of how Mojang Studios decided to use web standards and #React to build the new UI stack for Minecraft (Bedrock Edition).

While we wait for my most recent talk to go public, we can watch another @Mojang related talk done back in 2019. It shows our early explorations of handling gamepad focus navigation (also with @reactjs).

@Mojang@reactjs We are currently reworking that original implementation after building a couple of UIs. And that is the main reason we haven't open-sourced it yet.
Our team is super excited to share that we have started some open-sourcing! 📦
The fist package is a custom @reactjs renderer and state management system, built specifically to target Game UI development.

@mattahj @reactjs Thanks ❤️
We did some comparisons internally, and the results were mostly comparable. One benefit on our solution is support for the number based APIs (ex: topPX). The data-bind is only string based (for now).
Also, React was more natural to our workflow.
Thanks for everyone that attended my talk live at @ReactAdvanced. For anyone that couldn't attend, I'll post a link here once it is available for everyone.
It was a developer conference, but if you were waiting for a sneak peek on the new UI components... here it is ☺️
Are you curious about the new Minecraft UI we've building at @Mojang?
On the 25th I'll do a talk at @ReactAdvanced about how we are using Web Standards, React and @CoherentLabs Gameface to build the new UI for Minecraft. 👀
@eplxteek @Mojang@ReactAdvanced@CoherentLabs The UI in Bedrock. We have already updated the "Achievements Screen" to the new system, and we have more coming soon.
Over the weekend I've fixed and re-launched an old project of mine that tries to find "random" YouTube videos. You can check it out at https://t.co/IUmM3B8ab8
Still a bit hacky and buggy, but it works 😅
