Realmente El fixture de Argentina en el Mundial estaba armado así:

- 16vos vs Uruguay. Los uruguayos no pudieron y perdieron su lugar contra Cabo Verde.
- 8vos vs Paraguay. Los paraguayos perdieron el 2do lugar de su grupo vs Australia.
- 4tos vs Portugal o Colombia. Los portugueses se conformaron con el empate en el último partido del grupo que debían ganarle a Colombia para ser líderes.
Colombia no pudo contra Suiza en 8vos.
