Sardar Patel had banned the RSS in February 1948 following Gandhiji's assassination.

Subsequently, the ban was withdrawn on assurances of good behaviour. Even after this the RSS never flew the Tiranga in Nagpur.

In 1966, a ban was imposed - and rightly so - on government employees taking part in RSS activities.

After June 4th 2024, relations between the self-anointed non-biological PM and the RSS have nosedived. On July 9 2024, the 58-year ban that was in force even during Mr. Vajpayee's tenure as PM was removed.

The Modi government is welcome to spin this any way it likes – i.e. that it is the Pakistanis who went running to the US saying 'save us', that India accomplished all that it set out to – but the reality is that Modi did something that has produced an unsavoury but quite predictable end result. Pakistan now believes J&K is back in play as an international issue and the US is also saying this. The Indian side has suffered military losses that it is reluctant to quantify because doing so will be to the "advantage of the adversary" – an admission that these losses are non-trivial.

RW zealots are angry with Modi because they believe he lacks the courage to follow through on his promised military solution.

The truth is that Modi knew all along that there is no military solution. Driven by his own political calculations, he recklessly embarked on a dangerous, 'Balakot x 9' course of action hoping that the consequences could be easily managed. But events proved him wrong.

Unlike Modi, who seems to have just one approach towards Pakistan, countries typically use a combination of tools to modify an adversary's behaviour. A crucial factor in choosing the precise combination of tools is the extent of power asymmetry in military and economic terms, as well as an assessment of the wider regional and global environment. And here it seems, Modi and his advisors made several incorrect assumptions, the results of which are before us now.

Take all of this together and one conclusion stares you in the face: the Pakistani military and 'non-state actors' are not likely to feel particularly deterred by the events of the past week and may even be emboldened to be more adventurist.

Sadly for the reputation of India as a serious world power, the MEA encouraged the idiotic rhetoric and conspiracy theories of Modi bhakts and other loonytune Hindutva rightists to intrude into the Trump-Modi press encounters, where the performance of these uber nationalists just made India look silly.

Exhibit 1, the idiotic question on the “US deep state under Biden conspiring with Soros” to overthrow the Hasina dictatorship. The godi media fool who asked the question must have been taken aback by Trump’s stout denial!

Exhibit 2, one of the Indians praised Trump for “your fantastic 24 days of presidency” and then asked if USAID had interfered with elections in the US and India! I am not sure what Trump understood of her nuttiness but one thing he said did stand out: that he would be cleaning up the electoral process in the US and the first thing to be done was to bring back paper ballots! Now that’s something Modi Bhaktas in India just don’t want to talk about!

Exhibit 3, another Indian reporter wanted to know how the US expects India to help it “beat China” when he is imposing tariffs. It was left to Trump to say, somewhat statesmanlike, that he actually didn’t want to beat anyone!

The buzz in DC is that the MEA/Embassy helped these reporters get access to the press spray and press conference while sensible, seasoned journalists who might ask proper questions to Modi and Trump were kept away!

Sadly, the shitshow the godi gang put up did Viksit Bharat and ‘MIGA’ no credit.

Today, something unprecedented and deeply troubling has happened in Indian diplomacy.

The United States, yes, a third country, publicly mediated between India and Pakistan.

Even more shocking, they announced the ceasefire before India did. Who speaks for India now?

But this wasn’t a routine ceasefire announcement. This is a turning point.

For decades, India resisted any third-party interference on the Kashmir issue. From Nehru to Vajpayee, even in times of war, India held firm: “We talk directly. No one speaks for us.”

Modi has broken that legacy.

Our consistent position was: no mediation, no external interference.

Today, all of that has been thrown under the bus and not even with the dignity of a press conference.

The ceasefire was announced from Washington. Where is India's voice in this?

And let’s not forget, the Modi govt built its image around “isolating Pakistan”.

Today, not only is Pakistan back in the diplomatic conversation, it’s there with American blessings.

Decades of careful positioning, reversed in one move.

This is not strength.
This is not diplomacy.
This is a diplomatic disaster.

Modi hasn’t just shifted policy, he’s surrendered autonomy. No nation that calls itself sovereign allows foreign capitals to dictate terms on national security.

If Nehru had done this, if Manmohan had done this, the same media would be screaming “betrayal.”

But today? Silence. Complicity. And a celebration of what is effectively foreign intervention.

We were told this was a strong government.

Strong governments don’t let others speak on their behalf.

Strong governments don’t hide behind foreign powers.

Strong governments lead the narrative. They don’t surrender to it.

This is not just about foreign policy, this is about national dignity.

Our sovereignty has been negotiated away, without consent, without accountability, and without even informing the people of India.

History will remember this moment.

Modi didn’t just accept foreign mediation, he allowed India’s voice to be outsourced.

This is a betrayal of the very idea of a self-reliant, sovereign India.
