Hi, my name is Joseph Petraro. I like biology geology and pretty much everything science related. I’m also catholic I’m a cancer survivor and I like teaching
⚠️‼️DID YOU KNOW‼️⚠️
Cancer is not what you think.
Cancer happens when mutations affect genes that control how cells grow, divide, repair themselves, and die. Some mutations can be inherited through the chromosomes you get from your parents, while others develop during your life.
Having a mutation or family history does NOT mean you’ll get cancer. Usually, multiple changes must build up before a cell becomes cancerous.
However, let’s say you have NO
irritation and NO family history of cancer, that doesn’t mean you can’t get cancer It just means that it’s highly unlikely but in this scenario, let’s say you do end up getting cancer. This will most likely happen from incest, IVF (VERY UNLIKELY), Random mistakes when cells copy their DNA, Aging, Tobacco smoke and Sometimes there is no single identifiable cause—several mutations simply accumulate over time.
So next time you get anxious wondering if you have cancer, remember this: one random symptom doesn’t mean cancer. Hopefully knowing how it actually develops can help ease your mind. 🧬
⚠️‼️DID YOU KNOW‼️⚠️
Your body has an incredible ability to repair and maintain itself 24/7—even while you’re sleeping. 🧬🩹
Imagine you get a cut. Within seconds, damaged blood vessels begin narrowing to reduce blood loss. Platelets rush to the area, stick together, and help activate proteins that create a fibrin mesh, forming a clot that seals the wound. 🩸
Then your immune system gets involved. Immune cells move into the damaged area to destroy invading microbes and clean up dead or damaged cells. This inflammation is actually an important part of normal healing. 🦠🛡️
Next comes rebuilding. Cells called fibroblasts produce collagen and other materials that help construct new tissue. New tiny blood vessels grow into the area to deliver oxygen and nutrients, while skin cells multiply and migrate across the wound to close it.
Finally, your body spends weeks or even months remodeling the repaired tissue, reorganizing collagen and making the area stronger. Depending on the injury, the repaired tissue may eventually look almost normal or leave behind a scar.
And this isn’t only happening when you can see an injury. Your body is constantly performing maintenance. Your skin continually renews itself, your bone is constantly being broken down and rebuilt, your bone marrow continually produces new blood cells, and the lining of your digestive system undergoes rapid cell turnover. 🦴🩸
Your liver is especially impressive. It has a remarkable ability to restore its mass after part of it is removed, although that doesn’t mean it can recover from every kind of severe or chronic damage.
Even your DNA has microscopic repair systems. Your cells experience DNA damage regularly from normal metabolism and environmental exposures. Specialized proteins can detect many kinds of damage, repair them, or—if the damage is too severe—help stop the affected cell from continuing to divide. 🧬🔬
So your body isn’t a machine that simply gets older piece by piece. It’s a living, constantly changing system that detects damage, removes damaged material, replaces cells, rebuilds tissue, and maintains itself every second of your life.
Of course, the body can’t heal everything on its own, and serious injuries or illnesses can still require medical treatment. But right now, without you even thinking about it, countless repair and maintenance processes are happening throughout your body.
Your body has been repairing itself the entire time you’ve been reading this. 🤯🧬❤️
