@haruka_no_yume こんにちは!i had this exact same view when i went to japan in january. pretty dramatic difference in the last 20 years especially in kabukicho and where godzilla head is. although i do prefer 2005 to now and all the beautiful neon signs that i can see no longer exist 😔
Before Pikachu became the slim, sharp mascot we know today, he looked very different in the early days of Pokémon.
In the first episodes, Pikachu was rounder, chubbier… almost like a tiny, electric hamster.
Fans later started calling him “fat Pikachu.”
Over time, the design slowly changed — becoming slimmer, more expressive, and easier to animate.
That version became the global icon we recognize today.
But for many fans, the original will always feel special.
A little rounder… a little softer… and maybe even more nostalgic.
The original Pikachu.⚡️
now i know what the hell the pokémon theme song meant when it said, “i will travel across the land searching far and wide”. i traveled 5000+ miles to japan to visit every damn pokémon center in the greater tokyo area just to buy every rare pikachu plushie. gotta catch ‘em all 😏
