I didn't have $1 million for a Game Awards Trailer so I'm posting my Boss-focused Metroidvania Shmup here instead for free!

"Why is Earth Atlantis 2 taking so long to make?"
Exhibit A:
We felt the monsters' black eyes didn't look right.
So we removed them from almost every enemy in the game.
That tiny visual tweak turned into fixing 300–400 animation frames and several weeks of work.
Will anyone notice?
Probably not.
Will it bother us forever if we don't fix it?
Absolutely.
Game development in a nutshell.

@STGshmups Definitely. We've done everything from 2D and 3D to pixel art. Pixel art is the most satisfying style for us, but it's also the most challenging when you're aiming for high-quality results. There are very few shortcuts.
For the past several months, we’ve been reworking several things to make the gameplay feel more chaotic and explosive — especially during boss fights (close to the vibe of the Metal Slug games).
All bosses have been reprogrammed to be much more unpredictable, each with unique movement patterns and with more mayhem on screen. We’ve also added more details on the backgrounds.
Hopefully, we’ll be able to show a brand-new trailer with new gameplay footage during Summer Game Fest.

Not sure if weve mentioned this before, but Earth Atlantis 2 features "Bombs." 🤯 Mind-blowing, we know.
We’re not even sure why we never thought about having them in the first game. Maybe because most of the old PC and Famicom Shmups we grew up playing didn’t normally have bombs — that was more of an Arcade Shmup and Bullet Hell thing. Feel free to discuss.
Anyway… now you have them!

#Subnautica2
Subnautica 2 is a pacifist ideology woven into a game.
Players have noticed you cannot defend yourself against attacking fish. Not even in self defense. Only passive means are available.
This was by design. You can't kill anything because the devs feel it would support gun violence and aspects of colonialism:
"Subnautica is one vote towards a world with less guns. A reminder that there is another way forward."
"We want people to feel like they're learning to adapt to the world, rather than being a conqueror or dominator."
"We aren't a killing game. Go play Sons of the Forest or something if you want to kill."
The anti-violence stance got stronger from Subnautica 1 -> 2, which now has a complete "no kill" policy even when the fish can still kill *you*.
[Major Announcement]
After hearing that Subnautica 2 sold over 2 million copies within 12 hours, we held an emergency meeting today. Due to our dismal sales projections and terrible wishlist numbers, we have made the difficult decision to change Earth Atlantis 2 from a shmup into an open-world underwater survival game with crafting and base-building.
We hope you understand.
Sorry guys. We have families to feed.

- The best ending in video games. Period.
- A satirical, boundary-pushing “video game.” Bar none.
