@ESYudkowsky I spent 5 years trying to cure my IBS through various elimination diets. I finally discovered that carrageenan was the culprit. One problem is that it's in such a wide range of foods - dairy, sushi, rotisserie chicken, to name a few.
Carrageenan is a common ingredient in infant formula. Let that sink in. A substance that is used in scientific studies to CAUSE INFLAMMATION is literally an ingredient in infant formula.
Fun fact: Carrageenan, a common food additive is used by scientists to cause inflammation in animals, in order to test the properties of anti-inflammatory drugs.
Why on earth would we think it's safe for humans to consume?
I expect lots of hand wringing in my profession if RFK jr gets HHS. But we have around 50 different meds to treat DM 2, when we know that it can be treated (even cured) with diet and exercise. A valid question is, How did we get here?
When I first started working in health care, I had a major epiphany that we what we actually know is so much less than what we don’t know. I feel like failing/succeeding to recognize this will make or break us.
I feel like the mysteriousness of everything gets downplayed or ignored too much.
A bacterium can’t conceive of what humans and other animals do with our time.
It may be the same a level up—humans can't comprehend or imagine what our souls and other immaterial lifeforms do when they're home, in the spirit world.
One of my instincts for 2025 is to just start publishing and posting again, and not be so precious about it. That's how it was from 2006-2012 and it was a fun time to be online.
Lately most websites I visit are very slow from all the scripts and ads. I usually just close them before the content loads. What does that mean for the future of websites?
@tao_lin I enjoy the stream of consciousness in which you post. It feels really spontaneous and authentic. However often or seldom you post, it’s enough.
