@tomwarren@asha_shar She said the answer right there. They are a publisher and a platform and they need to support both. They have the content to do it. ABK, Minecraft, multiplayer everywhere. Single player and XBOX studios exclusive.
@dragunbo3@XBOX@asha_shar Honestly not a bad idea given she said their biggest competition is for people’s time and attention. If you can game alongside streaming shows or social media, that helps. And current consoles already support mouse and keyboard…
@BDarkness34868@WinC_Gaming@asha_shar The last time they tried this effectively was the 360 era and it worked very well. XBOX One had horrible launch and they had nothing prepared to compete with Sony first party. Series X was a drought until recent.
They are unifying PC and XBOX. So it will be the same ecosystem.
@BDarkness34868@WinC_Gaming@asha_shar Dude, learn business instead of slinging insults. It’s about making sure there’s a reason for your platform / ecosystem to exist. Otherwise you lose 100% of the fees you get (30% of sales) from 3rd party games like GTA on your storefronts.
@CultureCrave People want to complicate this but it really comes down to: "Does XBOX want to make money from sale of 3rd party games on their platform/storefront?"
If not, they should continue their push to be a publisher. If so, they need exclusives to have a platform.
@TheBlackViking3 No PS5, No Steam. Switch is okay because it is a lower-quality experience (it's always at least 1/2 generation behind) and does not directly compete with high-end consoles.
@yrulaughing418@IGN that's why it can't be just timed exclusives. some things must be your ecosystem only - which by the way is more than large enough when you include PC
@joesocial001@madz_pl Usually that is the case. But MS is the 2nd largest publisher and holds so much IP they can do both. They also have one of only 3 established console / platform brands. You don’t just throw that away.
@klobrille@Nick101Gaming Agree Klobrille, but what do you think about games that don’t neatly fit into those categories like Halo (has campaign and multiplayer) and Forza (strong single player and multiplayer)?
@oliver_drk “Case to case” destroys the purpose of exclusives, which is to give consumers confidence in your brand so they invest in your ecosystem. If XBOX’s stance on exclusives isn’t clear enough that the average consumer gets what’s exclusive and what not, it’s doomed from the start.
@chyld989@tomwarren@asha_shar Agree. As long as they have a solid lineup of great quality ecosystem exclusives, I’d even be okay with having Halo multiplayer everywhere and campaigns exclusive. I think you could also do timed Forza exclusivity like there been doing.
@PaulTassi@JezCorden Then it’s pointless 🤷🏻♂️. A few games with limited appeal as exclusives won’t do anything at all to grow the XBOX ecosystem. Which is the point of having exclusives in the first place. They have to have some mega hits on XBOX and PC only.
@JezCorden@PaulTassi Not expected but they certainly could put all the cats back in the bag. Then you just say, okay those games were your samples of XBOX franchises. If you want more, join the ecosystem.
@PaulTassi@JezCorden If they aren’t bold enough to make a single player game with massive appeal like ES6 exclusive then they shouldn’t even try. The point is to add can’t miss experiences as exclusives to your ecosystem (XBOX console, PC, cloud)
@chyld989@tomwarren@asha_shar It’s a good question, but if that’s the hardest one they need to figure out, they’re 90% of the way there. They have so much content that I’d personally keep Halo and Forza platform exclusive as they are so important to the XBOX brand.
@TheBigPlume After ABK closed Phil stopped using the “exclusives” dirty word. Before that they were all about “great exclusive games where game pass exists”. Asha admits to have a platform you need exclusive content. That means XBOX will have exclusives in some form again.
@djkkyle@tomwarren@asha_shar Once quality games started cranking out and ABK closed, they went hard right to multiplatform. They never gave it a fair shot. They even “one more thing” rug pulled Indiana Jones to the PS5.
